2011 Hyundai i30 CW 1.4 CVVT from Slovakia

Summary:

So far so good

Faults:

No serious problems in 6 years.

General Comments:

A good, comfortable space wagon car. The 1.4 80 kW engine is quite sufficient. But with 3-4 people inside, driving to the rapid hill is quite average.

Fuel consumption is from 5.4 outside the city, to 6.4 as a long term average, up to 7 litres per 100km in winter or in the city.

Original summer tyres are a bit noisy.

It is impossible to get 7l/100km (40 UK mpg) in a city winter with this car. Expect over 10/100km in city driving, more in winter time.

2011 Hyundai i30 Blue Drive Hatchback 1.6 CRDI turbo diesel from Norway

Summary:

Boring, sensible short-trip car

Faults:

Power window on the passenger side.

Problem starting the car when it's cold (starting from 0 degrees Celsius).

Interior rattles.

2 problems were fixed under warranty.

Light bulbs blowing often, 5000km apart. Unknown reason; the voltage seems to be OK.

General Comments:

If you are looking for a driver's car, don't buy it. The steering wheel feeling is not good, although the car is pleasantly light on the steering wheel.

Noisy when the speed exceeds 60 km/h, even with premium tires.

After a couple of hours of driving, my back is killing me. Poor seats.

Blue light illumination from the CD player and heater display is way too bright. I have to stick a post-it over it when it's dark, because the bright light from it is ruining the night-view. There is a "Dark" button for the CD player display, but not the one with the heater control.

The engine is fine and runs nice, and the power band is smooth. It does its job very well for this kind of car.

When I bought this car I tried to be sensible. Next time I'll follow my heart.

I might also add one last thing: Interior panels get easily scuffed, so you have to handle the car with care.

Would not buy another Hyundai. Complained to the manufacturer and did not even get any response.

2011 Hyundai i30 Trophy 2.0 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A good package for the money

Faults:

Only small warranty items, like the carpet not being aligned properly to the centre console.

The auto chromed gear stick top cracked, being plastic chromed, but it was replaced without question.

The ESP (electronic stability control) light came on intermittently whilst driving under normal conditions, but was found to be a faulty brake light switch; again, replaced under warranty.

Wasn't too pleased with the selling dealer's servicing, as per cost and actual times (labour) charges didn't make sense, but that's not a vehicle fault.

Other than the above mentioned, the vehicle has run faultlessly.

General Comments:

The factory Bluetooth could do with a hands free voice dial system, as currently installed on some other popular makes, but it works well.

The Vivid blue colour is great to look at, and the factory alloys look the part in grey.

My wife is very happy with this vehicle, as it does the job well as a city commuter, and is economical.

Safety features are amazing for such a budget priced vehicle; six airbags, ESP, ABS, cruise control, alloys, fog lights, rear spoiler, leather bound steering, gear stick, centre armrest. Full electrics and a great stereo.
