2002 Hyundai Matrix CDX 1.8 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Loved the car, now I cannot rely on it!

Faults:

Rev counter shoots up to 2500 revs on deceleration. Intermittent fault.

Poor fuel consumption - 16 miles per gallon compared with stated 24.

Loss of poor at around 2000-2500 revs and car fails to accelerate, although it was previously driving well.

General Comments:

Car was excellent when first purchased and I was pleasantly surprised at the acceleration for a large vehicle.

One month after purchase I noticed a decrease in performance and loss of power.

The dealership could not find a fault on any diagnostic tests and it has taken four months for them to admit there is a fault.

The high tension leads, spark plugs, injectors and immobilizer have been replaced and acceleration is slightly better, but still not up to scratch.

Descriptive and realistic comments. Initial response of car was good. Rear tyres wear off faster than front tyres, and then faster than normal. Tyres down to worn off mark after six months (or about 15000 km). Agent unable to find cause for uneven wearing off of one tyre.

Regarding the premature tyre wear, I experienced that too. After a few months driving the car, the rear tyre wears out waaaay faster than the fronts. Weird! I thought it's the new street near my house that's concrete. And it's probably the Kumho tyre as well.

2002 Hyundai Matrix GLS 1.6 from Singapore

Summary:

A car worth buying; both looks and performance

Faults:

So far the matrix has performed to my expectation.

Not a fast car in terms of pick up as it is a 1.2ton vehicle.

General Comments:

The car as in its original stock condition is a mild machine and performance I believe to most is just average.

However, with some DIY, like grounding, addition of magnets to fuel lie and air intake line. All these improve the performance and the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

How do you make the Matrix fuel efficient by adding magnets on the fuel and air intake line?

It may have the performance, but.. the design is lousy.. don't you feel that it look like turtle?

2002 Hyundai Matrix 1.6 petrol from Indonesia

Summary:

An affordable European designed car which meets all its requirements in its class

Faults:

The steering shaft wasn't properly installed, making the steering wheel looked unaligned when driving in a straight line. Had to bring it for service many times to find out the real problem. Clanking noise when braking, ends up being the emergency brake needing an adjustment.

General Comments:

A family car which meets all its requirements being one. Not a performance car, but a rather noisy engine during high acceleration. Very comfortable in its price range. Spacious interior with no nonsense redundant design.
