2004 Hyundai Terracan crtd from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Don't touch one"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

From new, seats loose (leather option fitted in Hyundai UK, bolts never tightened when seats re-fitted)

Car selecting 4WD all on it's own on bends in the road no less. Had to find out from an Australian owner that it had a faulty diff. Hyundai UK would know more about a fish supper. Diff had to be replaced, took Hyundai 8.5 months to rectify.

Wipers faulty parking, never fixed.

Directional indicators with a mind of their own, won’t stay on when you need them, won’t shut off when they are supposed to. Never rectified.

Horn not part of alarm system, going off at all times day and night, while car locked and alarmed. They managed to fix this one, when I told them what I suspected, a loose wire behind the airbag on the steering wheel boss.

Intermittent engine management miss, never sorted.

Rear shock, totally pancaked, had to have a new replacement, despite never being off the tarred public roads.

Turn off the ignition at the end of a journey and as soon as the key is removed, the car locks all the doors and alarms itself all before you've even got the drivers door open, service manager suggests customer is hitting the lock button the key!!! Am I pressing it, Every time from new??? I think not.

General comments?

I finally just had with Hyundai UK and the Hyundai Dealership, who I would just love to shame, only they wouldn't be ashamed, as collectively they have only just about enough brain cells between them, to know not to eat themselves.

I've cut my losses (and they were major, dire depreciation, try finding a dealer who will take one in PX) and got shot of this disaster of a car.

5 year warranty!!!, not much good if they don't have a clue how to fix the cars they are selling to Joe public.

Wait until the diesel injectors/pump fails. This is a common problem with the 2.9 cdri motor. Costs a fortune to fix if out of warranty (5000$!!!).

I purchased my Terracan 2.9CRDI Dec 2005,

It has never missed a beat, its more than a match for the most rugged terrain that I can find here in NZ. My previous 4x4 was a Isuzu Vehicross an astounding functional and capable offroader, The Terracan does the same job, but with more traction (heavier) an thus unstoppable... Hyundai must have fixed the suspension as my Terracan handles the road as good as any 4 door car in-fact my travels up and down 90Kms of the worst road in NZ (Parapara track) have never been safer or faster than in the Terracan all while averaging 35Mpg of desiel

I too have a terracan 2002 model. At the time of purchase, it was a great vehicle and for the first 18 months, it never skipped a beat.

Wait until it hits about 100,000km's. System failure!!! My terracan has been into the dealership approximately 30 times since March this year - and still they have no idea what is wrong with it.

This pattern continues, until I tell them numerous times what the problem is, then the vehicle is returned to me in a worse state with further problems.

I am going back - again - to Hyundai, tomorrow, to try and rectify the problem - again!!!

I suspect that there are numerous problems with it, including the suspension, or lack thereof, continuous pinging, and a constant vibration through the car at all speeds resulting in driving a vehicle that feels like a wheel is about to fall off.

Well, wish me luck. Oh, and don't say you weren't warned.

I have Terracan 2004 in Saudi Arabia; 50000 miles doing very well. But suddenly a humming sound appeared - faulty rear diff.

Dealer denies any similar cases and it costs around 2000$. Unlucky...
