1962 IHC Scout 80 80 396ci straight 6 from North America

Summary:

Perfect, wish I could go back 45 years and get a new one

Faults:

Well for a 45 year old 4x4 that spent its life on salty roads its done pretty good.

Rust everywhere.

Wiring has rotted away.

Vacuum lines rotted.

General Comments:

This is a tank... go anywhere... do anything... always starts, never quits. However at this age something is always in need of fixing. The old slider windows are a poor design, and I wish there was a way to make the wipers move in unison. I have the 1/2 cab model. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

1965 IHC Scout 80 152 Slant 4 from North America

Summary:

A well made, fun truck to own

Faults:

The only thing I had go wrong with the Scout was the speedometer went out. It was a quick and easy fix to replace the cable.

General Comments:

This truck is extremely reliable. Other than tune ups or replacing a burnt bulb, I have only replaced the speedo cable. Everything else works perfectly. I have never had any problems with the engine or transmission.

I would highly recommend this truck to anyone looking for a fun, reliable 4x4 to use both on and off the road.

1966 IHC Scout 80 slant 4 from North America

Summary:

Solid, dependable, fixable utility vehicle

Faults:

One front wheel bearing fell apart and the wheel almost fell off.

Once when I was driving up an old logging road that had turned into creek bed, a gas tank nearly fell out.

The whole front end was loose when I bought it, but by removing shims I tightened the ball joints and with the pull of a cotter pin I tightened the drag link. Some things were sure better in the old days - now one has to buy new parts. This little utility vehicle was made for farmers and for farmers to be able to fix.

General Comments:

This was a great little truck. It never broke down in the woods, even though it had many many miles on it. It wasn't the fastest vehicle in the pack, but dependable and cute. Wish I still owned it.
