2002 Isuzu Trooper 3.0 duty 3.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

This car was the worst car I ever bought

Faults:

The exhaust went 4 times, the dealer continually tried to replace it and weld it to no avail.

The windscreen cracked with no apparent impact.

The engine overheated on 4 occasions.

The turbo failed once.

All this on a brand new car.

General Comments:

I bought this car brand new from an Isuzu dealer. I had it 11 months, and suffered the problems above. It was continually broken.

Every time it broke it would be collected and a hire car left in its place, but when you buy a jeep you don't want to run around in a fiat panda, rover 45 or a vauxhall astra for weeks on end.

I kept the car for 11 months, then brought the dealer to court when he wouldn't replace it. We settled out of court.

The car was thirsty and unreliable.

The interior was poor compared to the Toyota and Mitsubishi.

Load space was huge, and the ride was good.

All round vision was excellent.

2002 Isuzu Trooper S 3.5L from North America

Summary:

Comfortable family truck with serious off-roading capabilities

Faults:

The only minor thing that we had trouble with on this car was at about 8000 miles, The TOD light came on. We went to the dealer and they could not duplicate the condition and it hasn't happened since. I've got my fingers crossed. We had a 1994 Trooper before this, and it ran excellent until we sold it at 115,000.

General Comments:

This is a great truck. I rated performance high (9) not because of 0-60 times or 1/4 mile. I did so because off road, this baby is rock solid. I feel totally at ease taking my family "back in the woods". It always starts and is decent on road. It actually handles quite well, despite some very negative press. You just have to keep in mind that this is no sports car. I wish Isuzu would build a new Trooper and ditch the Ass-ender.

2002 Isuzu Trooper 3.5 gasoline from North America

Summary:

Reliable and fashionable family vehicle

Faults:

Cracked windshield (rock)

Dead battery.

General Comments:

This is my first Japanese vehicle & first SUV. I am pleased on both counts with the reliability & design.

I switched to the SUV from my F-150 to accommodate my growing children. The Trooper has excellent passenger room in the rear seat.

I am 6 ft & fit comfortably in the captains seat, but could see where anyone taller would have problems. Additional leg length should be a consideration in the next design.

I have replaced my factory radio & speaker system with a premium one & the sound is held inside beautifully. This is a positive because it covers the horrific wind noise from the front windows during highway driving.

With regular oil changes & general maintenance I expect this vehicle to last me a long time.

A cracked window and a dead battery would not be considered as a "fault".

2002 Isuzu Trooper S 3.5 Gas from North America

Summary:

Best vehicle I have owned

Faults:

Cracked driver's windshild (stone).

General Comments:

Purchased in 10 of 02, used a little over 1 qt. in the first 2000 miles. Changed oil/filter, does not use oil between 5000 miles oil changes. I use Mobile One synthetic 15-50 as I live in the valley in CA. where it can get over 100F. I have been to Denver, phoenix, and El Paso and driving about 65-70 I get about 19-20m MPG. I now have just over 15,000 and have had no (that reads, none) problems. I probably have owned somewhere around twenty five vehicles and the Trooper has/is the best operating. It is for sure, a keeper. I understand that Isuzu is planning on a new Trooper for 06 that will be made in Japan. If it is better than what I have now, a reliable, easy to operate, durable, and go any place vehicle, I will take a look at it. I plan to install a supercharger this week before I move to Denver where the extra power will come in handy.

Nov 12, 2004, and I have made a few short trips with the new supercharger. It sure adds to the performance side of the Trooper. I have no trouble keeping-up with all the high ($$$) stuff costing 40,000 +... They should have put a supercharger on the option list.
