1994 Jaguar XJ220 from UK and Ireland - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Very little has gone wrong with this car. There was minor problem with the brake lights - the bulbs kept blowing every couple of months - but this was sorted out by an auto-electric shop relatively cheaply. I also find that the brakes need frequent attention, which is usually costly.

General comments?

I previously owned a 1998 reg. XK8 and to be honest I found that this car was more comfortable to drive and handled better than the xj220, despite the fact that it only cost me about 1/3 of the price of the xj220. Also I find the interior of the xj220 to be very bland for such an expensive car. My 220 has a black leather interior and a black dash, while the xk8 had cream leather interior and plenty of Walunt veneer around the dash area - altogether the xk8 was a much more classy car inside.

I purchased a 1994 Silver Jaguar XJ220 a few years ago. I came across this site looking for information about breaks. That is the only major problem I see with my car. I have a few other exotic autos to my collection; 2003 Lambo Murceilago, 2002 Lotus Exprit V8, and a Ferrari 355. I am currently looking for a 1995 Bugatti EB110ss. My comments about the Jaguar is that it has noticable diferance in characteristics then all the others. For brute speed/power the Jag takes the prize, but for overall comfort and reliability my Murceilago is best. Surprizingly enough, for a quarter of the price, the V8 Esprit, in my opinion is the most fun to drive. The Esprit has nothing to rivel it in that price catagory. The Ferrari is nice, but for "Driving" doesn't stand a chance to anything out of my garage. It is my wife's favorite, not a surpize to me. My number one pick, although some may disagree, is my Jaguar. I am very much awaiting to drive a Bugatti, I have heard many good things... Two thumbs up for the XJ220.

I can understand the interior being a bit disappointing, given that the XJ220 engineers pinched car parts from some underwhelming sources. For example, the rear lights are actually those of a Vauxhall Carlton...

If you still want a modern Bugatti, there are 5 of them for sale at www.carclassic.com.
