1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer from North America

Summary:

Good

Faults:

Nothing.

I have had my Jeep Grand Wagoneer for 5 years, and the only thing that I had to replace was the muffler.

General Comments:

During the five years I had my Jeep, I would not trade it for any truck going. I think this is the best vehicle ever.

In part time four wheel drive, it goes through anything, from mud to snow. In really bad snow storms and very icy roads, I put it in full time four wheel drive, and it is like a devil on ice.

The comfort of the seats is awesome, and the way it drives is wonderful. I recommend for everybody to drive one, to see for themselves.

1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360/5.9 from North America

Rear Axle Noise (fixed)

General Comments:

Even tho this car has a lot of work that need to be done I love it. I have drivin it twice hense for the low mileage I have pout on it. When my uncle gave it to me and we went around town I fell in love with it. It is the easiest car to drive. Great steering, Good gas mileage (19/25). I will own other cars, but I will never get rid of this one. It is my baby.

1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 5.9L V8 4x4 from North America

Summary:

Greatest Jeep Ever Made

Faults:

Multiple power steering pump problems.

Engine sounds no mechanic can figure out.

Rusted fog lamp.

Fuel gauge is slightly off

Seats are fairly worn

Cruise control module doesn't work.

General Comments:

I absolutely love this car. It was my first car when I got my license. Before I owned it, my grandmother did and she took pretty good care of the car.

Since it has been in my care, it has taken many beatings, off-road and in the snow. I love being able to plow through snow banks into my driveway.

I have had so many people compliment me on my car it's scary. Everyone loves it.

Everyone of my friends loves this car because it can comfortably seat 5 tall people. This was the prom car and it was great for the three couples that used it, no problems fitting in or staying comfortable.

1989 grand wagoneer with 150K miles: Have replaced alternator, distributor, choke, radiator (twice), fuel pump. An electrical marvel? If you put a window wiper motor, window defogger and electric window motor in one tailgate you will lose two of the three guaranteed. In my case I settled for having the window functional. The gas gauge doesn't work, cruise control is broken, power steering unit leaks. Passenger side window won't go down. Air conditioning is not effective. Have redone leaf springs front and rear and replaced all four shocks. I am debating when to quit trying to save this nightmare. If I can get enough parts to work at the same time my wife says "sell it"!! This is nostalgia no one needs.

1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer AMC 360 from North America

Summary:

Not for sale, ever

Faults:

Engine died after six months after purchase, however, I was already hooked and had a new AMC 360 installed via dealer. Replaced ancient, and complex vacuum lines. Replaced carpeting. Gas gauge does not work after the half empty mark. Air Conditioning never worked and will have to be fixed (100 degrees in Fresno in summer)

General Comments:

The Grand Wagoneer is the grand daddy of SUV's. It handles flawlessly off road whether its snow, mud or just tough terrain. Gas mileage is horrendous, but what do you expect for a 6000 pound box.

1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 V-8 from North America

Summary:

A very powerful, attractive, endearing, comfortable vehicle for those who enjoy life in the woods

Faults:

Air conditioning (leaked - charge ran down).

Went through 2 batteries.

Gas gauge and oil pressure gauge failed.

Front U-joints wore out quite quickly.

New brakes only lasted 2 years (probably due to the weight of the vehicle)

Power windows required maintenance.

Tailgate switch for the back window failed.

Cruise control module failed.

Mileage has never gone over 15 mpg.

General Comments:

In spite of the troubles, I still love this vehicle.

It's wonderful to drive on the highway, very comfortable, and is a very stable, safe vehicle for towing.

In 4-wheel drive, this vehicle is amazing. It can practically climb trees. I have always been impressed with the way it performs off-road. I also love the removable rear seat feature. For two people, the truck becomes a very comfortable camper while travelling in the wilderness.
