1994 Jeep Wrangler SE 4.0L from North America

Summary:

The best if you don't need luxury

Faults:

At 75,000 new radiator.

At 80,000 new battery.

At 95,000 new soft top.

At 100,000 new catalytic converter.

At 104,000 new windshield gasket.

Few bulb replacements.

General Comments:

Well, I think I picked a good one. I have had my Wrangler SE for 9 years and have not had any problems with it except for the normal wear and tear. The only reason I replaced the soft top is because my ski racks started to wear through from the wind beating. It's a little noisy when you are driving on the highway, but I just take the top off and it is much quieter. I recommend the 4.0L, it's a bear that can take a beating, and a K&N filter. I am going to keep this one forever.

1994 Jeep Wrangler S 2.4L from North America

Summary:

Fun and reliable

Faults:

During the 8 years I have owned this vehicle I have had minimal repairs. Some things have gone wrong.

1. At 52,000 the catalytic converter needed replaced (this was later recalled, but Chrysler would not reimburse me for my expense).

2. At 90,000 miles I had the brakes done (first and only time)

3. At 95,000 my water pump was replaces.

4. At 105,00 miles my oil pressure switch and Oxygen sensor was replaced.

5. At 150,000 miles my radiator was replaced.

Of course I had the normal maintenance done as well as several sets of tires and a new battery.

General Comments:

This is a very fun and reliable vehicle!

If you like a smooth and comfortable ride, this is not the vehicle for you!

It may be loud and rough riding, but it is fun and will go places most cars can't.

It is very inexpensive to maintain. (I still have the original alternator!)

It is easy to do the maintenance yourself.

Very pleasing to drive with the top down.

Not the most comfortable on long trips, it is very load and not much luggage room.

This has been the best and most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

1994 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L from North America

Summary:

A well built basic on/off road vehicle

Faults:

Nada.

General Comments:

I must have found a decent Wrangler. Although the spark plugs look like the originals and the fluids and lube points were old, this unit runs great and gives me a solid 19/20 miles per gallon in the city. Drives and handles fine with no problems that I can detect. Reasonable pickup and power after new consumables were added. I'm in love!

1994 Jeep Wrangler S 2.5 liter 4 cylinder from North America

Faults:

The oil pump went bad at about 80,000 miles. This happened to the previous owner while he was driving. The oil pressure dropped sharply, but he managed to get it shut off in time before anything bad happened to it. It still runs excellent and with the new oil pump makes about 35 lbs. of pressure at idle and about 55 lbs. at higher RPM's. The factory top is still on (yes it is 8 years old) and it is shot. The seams are starting to rip and the snaps are starting to pull out. It is quite difficult to see out of the rear side windows. The top should have been replaced a long time ago and it is about to be done now.

General Comments:

The Jeep runs very good. The 2.5 liter has plenty of power for my purposes. It is by no means quick or powerful, but it gets the job done. I do a lot of trail riding and when you are in low range you don't really need a whole lot of extra power anyway. A 4.0 liter six cylinder would still be a wise choice anyway. My next Jeep will probably have that so that I can tow my boat a little easier. I have the stock suspension for now and I run 30 x 9.5 15's on it with no clearance problems. I believe I checked the comfort rating at a 4 out of 10. Hold no illusions... this is a Jeep not a Cadillac. As far as stability, I have no concerns about flipping over at all. Which is more dangerous the loaded gun or the person holding it? As long as you drive like a reasonable human being you will have nothing to worry about. All in all this is a very fun vehicle and it has proven to be very reliable to me so far. I will see how many miles I can get out of it. I think it is an outstanding vehicle for the money and anyone interested in a small SUV should definitely consider it.
