2000 Kia Clarus S 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Capable but unexciting

Faults:

Not a lot actually, everything still works apart from the air conditioning, but it probably just needs recharging.

General Comments:

Poor MPG, only JUST getting 30mpg on a run and a lot less around town. Engine runs OK and has been serviced, so it can't be that??

Not nice to drive, dull and old man-ish with lifeless steering and slightly awkward steering wheel position.

Fit and finish OK, although some trim quality is cheap and flimsy. Performance is unexciting too; not much torque or flexibility.

Very relaxing cruiser though, sits at 70mph for mile after mile without trouble.

2000 Kia Clarus S 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Unknown, but a good car that is good to drive and cheap to buy

Faults:

Glove box handle fell to pieces and the seat belt webbing is wearing.

Other than that, a reasonably well built and very reliable car.

General Comments:

Boring interior, no sense of style or occasion, slightly cheaply made, but overall OK.

Seats are supportive and armchair like, and the ride is nice and supple. Criticism of its looks are the small wheels, they look like casters on an armchair, and reduce the car's street cred a lot.

Quite handsome to look at when your eyes become accustomed to it!

2000 Kia Clarus GLX 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable mile-churner, the only thing you'll be pulling is a caravan

Faults:

Body build is not the greatest.

Door hinge on drivers door needs attention.

Flimsy body panels.

General Comments:

Good reliable motoring. I was dubious when I first bought this car - although it got a severe bashing with the ugly stick, the looks actually can grow on you.

Lots of space inside, gearbox is smooth, acceleration seamless. Good leather seats, a/c works well.

Have de-badged mine at the back which makes for a more interesting car - people often wonder what it is.

Would recommend it as a lot of car for very little money.

Thanks for this review. A colleague drove this car into the packing lot and declared how much it was worth = customs + registration etc. Too cheap to be true. I took a drive and it sprints like a champ. Have gone on road trips, and it's so surprising how much stamina this car possesses, and the stunts it can perform.

My question is WHAT FAULTS HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED? Has it ever left you on the road stranded? Anything peculiar? There are no many reviews on this car, despite its capabilities and affordability. Would be interested to share more of your well of experience.

1998 Kia Clarus GLX (Credos in Aus) 2.0 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Excellent car. Difficult to replace

Faults:

Power steering hose over motor split 90k.

Alternator failed 130k. $1000 A$ to fix.

Indicator combo switch replaced 3 times under warranty (finally found to be plastic column housing catching it!)

Front parking lamp blew at 100k

Rear disk pads wear out at 40K

Front disk pads replaced with 4mm left at 100K.

General Comments:

I bought the car because it was a bargain and had everything I wanted except the passenger air bag. I still have the car because I can't find anything good enough to replace it. At least not under $40k.

Dirt road handling is awesome! Safe and predictable. I can leave more powerful cars like the 3.5L Magna for dead. Although that may also be because I'm prepared to let the suspension and tyres work hard.
