1991 Kia Pride CD5 1.1 from Philippines

Summary:

Great first car

Faults:

Banged-up body when I got it.

When I bought it, I got 8 kms/liter. Immediately needed an overhaul.

Dashboard and door panels rattle.

General Comments:

After the overhaul, I got 17-19 kms/liter highway driving. 12-14 city driving.

Never broke down or overheated.

1991 Kia Pride LX 1.3 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Absolutely brilliant!

Faults:

Various normal things, brake pads, tyres, pipes rusted.. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Worst thing being that the battery went and I had to buy a new one!

General Comments:

Beautiful car, pretty reliable, reasonably easy to get parts for if you have a Kia dealer close by, but 90% of Mazda parts will fit as it is a rebadged Mazda!

Definitely worth a buy considering I'm still using it now after all this time and it just got through the MOT yesterday with only 3 fails (number plate light out, revs at idle too fast and the exhaust emmisions are too high). To fix those it cost quite a lot less than my Vauxhall Nova which is 6 years newer than the Kia!

I must admit that the Kia Pride is not a bad car at all. OK, it's a bit bland in styling and performance, but overall not too bad. If you want one, buy it.

I learned to drive in one of these. I've always retained a fond memory of the car, it seemed to be simple and competent.
