2000 Kia Sephia Base review from North America
"Overall a good car which Kia probably would have built better if they were financially inclined to"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Cigarette lighter socket would come out of the console. After the service dept blamed this on my cell phone charger, they made adjustments which have proved so far to be mediocre.
Interior cabin light switch simply fell off (replaced).
Rear passenger door moldings rub against the front doors when opened, I have complained to the service people three times and have yet to have the flaw corrected.
Hancook tires were completely worn out by 24,000 miles, not covered under the warranty.
Horn has been working intermittently for four months, I just took the car back to the dealer to notify them, they ordered a new horn switch today.
The latch for the compartment between the front seats broke, compartment lid was replaced.
Brake pads will soon need replaced, they are starting to squeal and cause mild pulsation at the brake pedal and steering wheel. Dealer says they are a "wear item", and were only covered for twelve thousand miles.
Front passenger door seal has been continually peeling off of door, a new seal was ordered today.
Rear carpeting is wearing and pulling away from where the edges should have been tucked better. I still need to notify the dealer of this.
Occasionally the factory radio cuts out for a second when I hit a substantial pot hole or bump in a road. I still need to notify the dealer of this.
Sun visor was left down on a recent hot summer day (very hot, all day). When I got in the car for work the next morning the plastic cover on the visor was somewhat disfigured. I still need to notify the dealer of this.
General comments?
The purchase price (September 2000), was great with the rebate, only 10,800 including California sales tax and registration.
The car has decent get up and go for what I paid.
Overall fuel economy is fairly impressive even with the A.C. on and my lead foot on the pedal.
The car handles great, especially since I invested $360.00 on new tires after the factory ones wore out.
Reasonably accomodates four adults with relative comfort for a economy car.
A.C. takes a while to adequately reach the rear passengers on a hot day.
