2010 Kia Sportage XE 4WD 2.0 16V from Ivory Coast
Summary:
Practicality and space, questionable quality of materials
Faults:
Premature wear of brake pads, squealing brakes and faulty brake calipers can frequently cause issues. Brakes finally broke after reaching 100,000 km (they didn't last very long).
Progressive wear of shock absorbers, ball joints and stabilizer links, which generates noise when driving on rough roads.
Error codes in sensors (such as the camshaft sensor) and occasional problems with the central locking or lighting system.
Like the brakes, the suspension also deteriorates over time, and generates an annoying noise when turning.
General Comments:
Interior space is the best thing this SUV, now over 15 years old, has to offer. The front seats are spacious and comfortable, and there's even enough room for three adults to sit in the back. There's plenty of headroom and, thanks to the absence of a transmission tunnel, ample legroom as well. However, the Sportage's somewhat soft suspension could become tiring on long highway journeys.
As for practical equipment, it includes electric windows on all doors, cruise control, hill start assist, Bluetooth phone connectivity, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and two ISOFIX child seat anchors in the rear seats.
It also includes folding rear seats, which increases the vehicle's practicality and makes it easier to load bulky items into its good-sized trunk.
It also features additional storage space under the trunk floor, ideal for storing valuables out of sight, as well as a good-sized glove compartment, numerous storage compartments, and spacious door pockets.
The 2.0 engine is from Hyundai, and I can say it's quite reliable, although it does consume a lot of fuel in the city. However, the average consumption isn't high, just over 8 liters per 100 km.
It's a fairly comfortable SUV that does its job, although the components are clearly not top quality and it shows when driving it; over time, noises become noticeable, both in the suspension and in the seats and interior plastics.
