1992 Lada Samara 1500S 1.5 petrol from Turkey

Summary:

Good value for your money

Faults:

Nothing in particular.

Some parts replaced:

Carburetor, fuel pump, ignition.

Rust everywhere, but no danger of breaking down: very thick steel bodywork!

General Comments:

This is really a good car for it's price, reliable and very easy to drive.

There is no comfort inside, very noisy on bad road surface and a little difficult to park, there is no steering assistance, not even as an option..

Good performance, easy to handle and cheap on fuel economy.

Some progress needed on quality and manufacture.

I use this car every day for going anywhere without being worried. No one would steal it...

1992 Lada Samara GLX 1.5 from Israel

Summary:

Cheap, good, reliable & comfortable transportation, though not the best quality

Faults:

All most everything: water pump at 90000km.

Alternator was bad and has been replaced at 100,000.

Cluch blew at 100,000 km.

The in-car heeting cable was torn.

And the worst problem is the interior plastic parts that were torn (dashboard).

Also the 2 door lock is very rough when opened.

General Comments:

This car is very reliable mechanically (all the parts that blew were at reasonable wear & tear).

The car has an excellent air conditioning system.

The interior quality of plastic parts is very poor.

The car is quick and has good moment and acceleration.

The car is quite comfortable and it has enough room for 2 adults and 3 kids including luggage.

The car has 5 doors.

The parts prices and maintenance are very cheap.

It makes 1 liter for 11/12 km.

I live in Sydney Australia, I purchased a Cevaro GL 1500cc in 1997 for $1499, with 47500 km, now in 2005 has 140,000 km. The car has been great, if serviced regularly there should be no major problems, I have recently replaced the heater hoses because oil had been leaking from the petrol pump which is directly above one of the hoses. The bellows on the front CV joints are torn, the car is 13 years old, they don't last forever. The clutch is due for renewal soon, if Lada were still sold in Australia I would have no hesitation in purchasing another one.
