1990 Lancia Delta Integrale 16v 2lt turbo from South Africa

Summary:

Never leaves you cold

Faults:

Brake Booster failed

Wheel bearings failed (X2 on front)

General Comments:

The most fun to be had on 4 wheels -seriously!

Not a car for everyone - if you get to understand this car you will love it.

I had always wanted to own an Intergrale after seeing Top Gear rave about the car. I own 7 other cars and the Integrale is the only one I would not part with. The car I bought was generally well looked after with only 80 000 kms on the clock. Initially I was horrified by some of the costs of repairs, but since getting the car sorted with new brake discs and pads and replacing the wheel bearings and a few other things expenses seem to have settled down. In my opinion this car should be used as a second car only. While it is a pleasure to drive around town this is not where it should be used. Use it on weekends for fun or when you need to get the Adrenalin running and you will have a much better relationship with this car. There is a great satisfaction to be had from the smug knowledge that you drive a car which could outperform most things on the road today. I get a great thrill out of the fact that the car is recognised for what it is only by people that respect what the car can do.

An old review but a good one, and exactly how I feel when I see cars like this. Iconic and nostalgic. I'm all for the future and technology, but cars like this must remain.

1990 Lancia Delta HF integrale 16v 2.0 turbo 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

High performance, high class rally hero snapping at the heels of supercars

Faults:

Clutch slave cylinder bracket broke, but I was able to drive it to the garage. Couple of dodgy earths.

General Comments:

OK the electrics could be a bit better, but the reliability issue is complete rubbish. You can't buy an integrale and expect it to run faultlessly if you don't pay attention to the servicing etc. had the car a year now and still have a big grin every time I drive it.

1990 Lancia Delta Integrale 2.0 16v turbo from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Just one rear CV joint to date. Replaced cheaply by local specialist dealer. Tyre wear is heavy - but that's just because I drive it as it was designed to be driven!

General Comments:

These have a bad reputation for reliability, but so far (15 months) it has behaved. The only slight niggles that I've had, are with the bank of lights that warn of impending doom!

Every day a different one lights up - even though nothing is wrong. I now take the attitude that so long as at least one of them is lit, all is well!

Oh, and the chassis could happily handle at least half as much power again.

There is no rust, and I'll never sell.
