1997 Lexus SC 400 from North America

Summary:

I can't believe how beautiful it is!

Faults:

Although the car was seven years old when I bought it, it was in pristine condition with very low mileage. Thus, with it's fabulous condition and Lexus reputation for quality, the only thing I have fixed so far is a burned out left headlight. I chose to replace both at the same time with Silvania Silverstars, which didn't take too long.

General Comments:

Everyone thinks my car is new or near new. I have had the car for a year now, and just last week, I received three compliments on the car's beauty and value. My friends keep telling me I have the best car ever as far as looks, reliability, comfort, and luxury. They tell me never to sell it, or if I do, then to sell it to them when the time comes. Problem is, there is only one car, and many of them, so they will have to arm wrestle for it!

The car handles beautifully in normal weather. Passing on the freeways is a breeze... the cabin remains quiet and smooth even at high speeds. When idling, I can barely feel the vibration of the engine on the steering wheel.

Snow and ice introduce problems, however, so next year I plan to buy snow tires. The heavy weight of the car gives it a very solid and safe feel, but this is a handicap on slick roads. My car has all the options, including traction control, but even this can't compensate for bad Midwestern winters.

I have to change the air filter every three months, or fuel economy begins to noticeably deteriorate. With a new filter, this V-8 powerhouse gets 21 miles per gallon overall.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Normally there are several engine and transmission mounts. It would be very expensive to replace them all. May be just have them checked out and see which one has gone bad.
