1985 Maserati 425 2.5 biturbo from Austria

Summary:

A diva!

Faults:

Rust, rust, rust... everywhere! Car body looks like a ruin.

Turbos... at 120000km.

Rear wheels every 8000km.

Car electrics and electronics are a big problem.. sometimes the central locking system works, sometimes not.. wipers are the same... and once when I was driving on the motorway (speed about 180km/h) the lights turned off... bad surprise!!

General Comments:

This car is a diva... and you have to treat and to handle it like a diva... then it is fabulous!

The performance of the 425 is incredible. Looks like a rusty old Fiat... runs like a Ferrari. I love to see the surprised faces of Calibra- and 325i drivers after they got beaten by the 425.

Cabin is very luxurious. Every time I get in I am surprised it is a bit more beautiful than I remember.

Be damn careful if it is raining or snowing!!

The cabin is quite spacious and very comfortable for 4 persons.

Damn, the fuel consumption is a catastrophe!! It is NEVER under 13l/100km... and most of the time about 17l/100km... and the scale seems to have no end. Personal record: 25l/100km.

If you want to buy one... spend your holidays in Italy and buy it there. Maseratis are damn cheap there, but be careful... most of them are ready to throw away.

1986 Maserati 425 2.5 twin turbo from North America

Summary:

A rocket that's light on your pocket

Faults:

Starter, alternator, turbo's.

General Comments:

Considering I really abused this car, remarkably reliable. Being an inter-cooled version, it is extremely fast, standard HP is 185, this one has 205 and 260 lbs of torque compared to 208.

A different rear bumper from the standard 425, seems to give it a better side profile. Absolutely love it but cannot afford it anymore, so will be selling it once the turbo's are fixed. I am very sure I will regret that decision.

1986 Maserati 425 2.5 twin turbo from North America

Summary:

Cheap entry level eye turner

Faults:

Timing belt.

Differential.

Tires :) Hmm, what else.

General Comments:

Way too comfy, I could sleep for days in her!

Not lovely looking at first, but she does grow on you.

She treated me very well, stranded only once, just a bad ignition wire.

I do all repairs myself, and have done numerous performance additions.

Know what you're buying before you buy one though, it can be a nightmare, and find yourself a good mechanic or become one.

Like me. :)

1984 Maserati 425 2.5 litre biturbo from Netherlands

Summary:

Disaster. Give me a handkerchief

Faults:

Everything. The car was a disaster. It appeared to have crashed before, and received a new backside. Diff was broken, gearbox, turbos, valves, pistons, piston rings... a nightmare.

It is scrapped now, and I bless it for that. It seems the first Maserati you buy is always the worst one, after that you learn. Second one was better... See report of my 2.24v

General Comments:

I dream of it every now and then when I have had too much to drink.
