2007 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 320 CDI 3.0 turbo diesel from Bulgaria

Summary:

Dream machine. Period!

Faults:

I bought my new ML (W164 - second ML in a row) just a month ago from Germany. It's a 2007 320 CDI. What I noticed right away is in the morning it starts after 3-4 revs. I hear first one cylinder crank, then another one etc. During the day, when engine is hot, this disappears - she starts right away. I had similar problem with my old 2003 ML 270 CDI; it turned out to be worn out rubber rings on the fuel line. Air was sucked in the fuel line, before the fuel pump at the front. Once replaced - it was all back OK. However, I think I should take her to a MB service center.

At night my central and left rear view mirrors dim, when highlighted, but the right one doesn't. I wonder if it is OK, or if there is a malfunction.

My left rear view mirror doesn't move up and down, only left-right. Probably because the previous owner had programmed both mirrors to close, each time he locked the car. I changed the settings from the instrument panel, but the mirror(s) need fixing.

General Comments:

I previously owned a 2003 ML 270 CDI (W163) for 5 years and she never let me down.

My new one is like a dream come true - she jumps and FLIES, when needed (3.0 V6 turbo diesel), and still doesn't drink much, because of the FANTASTIC 7G-tronic auto gearbox. She stays at 130 km/h at 2300 RPM.

Great engine, amazing gearbox, fair consumption (10.0 highway, 12.0 city).

Overtaking is like on a big motorcycle - just think of it - when you press the pedal, you are ahead. It's kid's play.

LOTS of power, GREAT handling, and an ABUNDANCE of luxury.

She has THE top equipment - full leather, the BIG Command, integrated Bluetooth, rear view camera, sun roof, heated seats, hill assist and cross country control. For me - it's worth every single cent. A true dream come true. Hope she is reliable as my old ML - did 70000 km in it, just changed oils, filters and brake pads.

2007 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML350 from North America

Summary:

Not worth it, choose an RX350 instead

Faults:

Teeth on camshaft gears are falling, causing the timing chain to slip at 90 000 km. To repair, the 7000.00 engine must come out.

General Comments:

Looks good, but not worth it.

Over engineered, too costly to repair.

Ugh, I'm coming from the opposite direction... Transmission died on our RX350, and Lexus would not replace it, only rebuild, and after they gave it back, the transmission doesn't feel right at all. It's getting to the point now that I just want to get rid of it before the warranty expires, and the ML350 was on my list.
