2005 Mercedes-Benz Vito 111 diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Pity the backup is so poor

Faults:

Within 12 months the engine oil seal went. Went in for repair, came out still leaking. 2nd attempt sorted it, but left oil and grease all over the interior.

Rust appeared on driver's and rear door. Driver's door repaired under warranty. Rear door I was told was not covered?

6 months later, driver's door rusted out along the bottom edge. Main dealer said not covered under warranty. After a lot of independent inspections, it was found the bad original repair was to blame, but this was not under warranty, as the service book was not correctly filled out. All servicing up to this period had been carried out by a Mercedes Benz main dealer, but they had not filled the service book details in correctly, so they would not warranty work. Also they managed to lose computer records of initial rust problems and photos, so their warranty did not have to sort.

General Comments:

Been a good work horse, but all the promises made at the sale point on warranty cover, servicing and loan vehicles etc, were not worth the paper they were written on.

2005 Mercedes-Benz Vito 111CDI 2.2 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A cracking van that drives like a car

Faults:

No major problems in 75000 miles. Heated mirrors stopped heating, fuse replaced by dealer free of charge.

NSF tyre wear within first 10,000 miles was put right by tracking vehicle.

Suspect knock in engine cured by dealer in first service.

General Comments:

Very pleased with vehicle from new, after changing from Volkswagen Transporter which was very sluggish.

Amazed by service intervals at nearly 20,000 miles between, and reasonable costs which again scored over and above the Transporter.

I notice since that the seats have been modified in the rear on the new models, which are very much better than the one-piece seat bench in mine, which is quite uncomfortable.

Sound levels are quite loud at high speed, but after using an identical model that the dealer lent me when mine was in for service, I noticed a big improvement in sound deadening.

2005 Mercedes-Benz Vito 111 cdi 2.2 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great van with a few niggles

Faults:

Uneven tyre wear.

Electric windows have a mind of their own.

Front doors don't always lock.

General Comments:

This van is quite quick and has a torquey engine.

N/S front tyre was starting to wear on the outer edge so took it to dealer and now the O/S outer is now starting to wear, (At least they now match).

Pretty nippy when setting off and has plenty of power when overtaking making it a bit safer.

Comfortable to drive and has good handling even when fully loaded.

Has good looks and pleasing to the eye even for a van.

Done just over 10,000 miles in 6 month and no major problems so far.

Try putting some real mileage on your Vito & then come back & comment. From my experience it won't be favourable.

I've done 15,000 miles at 9 months, and am very pleased with most aspects of my 109. The drive is almost car-like with reasonable power. Fuel consumption is about 38 mpg. It's unlikely anyone will get more than this as I am a very 'light footed', careful driver. Mine is also my car, so it's very well looked after and looks great with roof bars and spoked alloy wheels. I have to say though that it needed a new clutch a few weeks ago, but this was done under the warranty and I am very pleased with it now. The only other problem was that the cab roof lining became water stained and this was also renewed under warranty.
