1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL from North America

Summary:

Awesome

Faults:

Nothing, so far has gone wrong with the car. It has been very reliable, and has not been to the garage for anything more than the required tune up, and oil change. Besides the infamous ticking noise it makes in the first 5 minutes of operation, it has nothing wrong.

General Comments:

This car stands up to everything and anything you give to it. It has the power, agility, and sleek looks of a exotic sports car, and at the same time has a luxurious feel with its smooth, but very responsive ride.

1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT Base 3.0 V6 24Valve from North America

Summary:

A poor man's 911

Faults:

Nothing really went wrong. The timing belt and water pump had to be replaced at 57,000 miles which I thought was a bit early as the manual said it usually will fail at 60k miles. The engine's lifter ticking sound is inevitable as these V6 motors age. It doesn't seem to hurt performance, but just very annoying. Seems that regular oil change and using the right oil cuts down on the tick or you could just upgrade them to the 99 lifters. The window trims are waring out due to sun exposure. The front rotors always seem to warp sooner than expected.

General Comments:

In general, this car is very fast and has very good low end torque from 1st to 3rd. After 3rd, the power seems to cut down, but you can maintain high end torque with an aftermarket downpipe, cat, and exhaust. Repairing and maintenance is quite expensive if you don't know how to fix it yourself. Taking it to the dealer is always a rip off. The parts are expensive and labor is steep because the design of the engine bay is quite weird. I definitly recommend this car only if the owner has enough cash to maintain it. The interior is sporty and very comfortable. The base model still a very fast car for the price. Once last thing, this car is for sure a girl getter. Girls love this car. Definitely a fun car to drive. I still own it and plan on keeping it for a few more years.
