1992 Mitsubishi Diamante 3 liter SOHC from North America

Summary:

A truly great car for the money

Faults:

Only thing is a troubling clunking sound probably related to the strut/strut plate.

Also, the distributor coil cracked (hairline) and stranded me at 176000 away from home ($95 fix).

General Comments:

Man, this car is great! I'm the second owner and the first owner is my buddy who did everything by-the-book...at the dealership!! That must be the reason why is feels so good... almost new, no joking. I haven't had really any of the problems I read about these cars (rattles, breaks, transmission issues, etc).

It feels great at 100mph...steady and not straining at all. Also, I"m very happy with the gas mileage... consistently 22-28!! And that's here in Texas (Dallas).

It is time for maintenance though, for timing belt, belt tensioner, etc.

1992 Mitsubishi Diamante LS 3.0 V6 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Saftey, fun, and performance on wheels

Faults:

The only thing that is wrong with the car currently is that it smokes because the gaskets leak. We use high-mileage oil in it know to preform better.

There is also a clicking noise in the cars driver side wheel.

General Comments:

I am 18 and bought this car from the back lot of the dealership. It is very reliable and perfroms very well on the interstate and it is also handles very well. For my first major car with a payment I enjoy it very much.

The funniest part of it is that when I go places people always ask me "Wow, where did you find that BMW?" I just laugh and tell them that "It's the only Japanese made BMW you will ever find!"

The inside is also comfortable. The wood trim accents inside and the soft warm tones of the leather make it a great retreat for holiday, or special occasion driving.

It also has drivers side airbags and passenger airbags that are an added saftey feature for comfort.

It was not until this last week when I really understood the true saftey of it. When I was in Peoria, Illinois a driver stopped suddenly. If it was not for the four wheel anti-lock disc brakes I would have hit the back end of the car in front of me. And the amazing part was the car did not lunge forward or take a nose dive, it just yielded to a halt.

I have the same problem with the gasket leaks and have to use higher grade oil. Other than that the car is very reliable.

1992 Mitsubishi Diamante ES 3.0 V6 SOHC from North America

Summary:

Comfort and Luxuary at very high price!

Faults:

Car has Idling problem. When I run the car for 5 miles and above it stalls at idling speed. Got it checked (Computer Engine Diagnosis) at Firestone, in vain, then say the report is as clean as it could be. Took the car out and drove 10 miles, the idling problem returns.

Had to replace brake drums at the front as car started jumping a little when stopping at traffic lights.

Replaced both front driver side and passenger side axle within 3 months.

Brakes make lot of noise only if 50% worn out.

It makes tuk-tuk noise on driver side, took to dealer - no clue what makes it!!

General Comments:

Tyres, filter, high octane petrol, low mileage are common for a luxuary car like this.

Comfort wise car is excellent, but a very high maintenance car.

Great power and runs great even in economy mode.

Couldn't make any difference between Power and Economy modes, for me both work the same!!

I owned a 92 Diamante LS, bought it brand new. I have 225,000 miles on it and the only problem I had was valve seals.

I changed my timing belt twice and water pump once.

I really enjoy my vehicle.

I bought 92 Diamante (ES) 4 months back. Faced the following problems from then:

Car gives a jumping feeling when stopping at traffic lights, changed front brake drums.

Brakes started giving noise, it is growing week by week though only 50% worn out - had to change them too.

Now Car stalls at idling speed, especially after a free-way drive for 10+ miles... did Computer Engine Diagnosis - nothing came out of that. Car still stalls, I try starting 3 to 4 times and it works fine.

Engine power and performance are excellent except this new problem!!

If you are lucky you get a better car, take your changes in buying a car 8+ years old.
