1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX 2.0 non-turbo DOHC from North America

Summary:

A slinky car, up times and down times

Faults:

First problem I had with it was oil. Always seems to be burning oil, especially most recently if I idle for a minute or two like at a stop light.

Alternator belt squealed for months! Lube'd it, changed it (after it broke off twice!) and it still squealed. Very very very annoying sound when driving around trying to look good.

Paint job. Probably because it's old but I had a little fender bender on ice (got hit from behind and I hit car in front of me). The paint in the area where the cars bumped just peeled right off. No structure damnage which is good but paint just brittle as can be.

Alternator finally blew in April 2001. Took 2 weeks for new alternator, timing belt, and tune up. The big wait was for the timing belt which I ended up going to Auto Zone and buying myself. Mitsubishi Dealership has a bad vendor. Car seemed to ride very nice after out of the shops for about 3 days. Now I stall occationally at stop signs, stop lights, and in reverse. On average of 3 times a day.

General Comments:

I love this car being it is my first car. I'm taking age in to consideration and I do think that a newer model wouldn't give me as many problems. Overall I'm satisfied with it. When it runs great, stock engine can beat most cars it's generation out there. I even raced a '96 Avenger and won. He claimed "he wasn't ready" just was being a sore loser.

1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse Base 1.8 Gasoline from North America

Summary:

Reliable and long-lasting

Faults:

I never had ANY major problems with my Eclipse. It's a beautiful car that runs very well even after nine years. This car outlasted three Fords we owned in the past ten years.

General Comments:

Most of the service at both the dealership & over the phone was excellent. I will buy another Mitsubishi soon.
