1991 Mitsubishi Galant GLS 1.8 carb 16v from Gibraltar

Summary:

Tranquil, but way too heavy

Faults:

I piece of internal air piping from just above the pedals fell off when I got into the car a bit enthusiastically one day - my fault really, still got it, but haven't bothered to put it back.

Synchromesh has gone in 1st (before I got it) but provided you don't shove it into gear rapid its perfectly drivable although should not have happened at low mileage - that's the trouble with Gibraltar cars, only ever in first and second gear...

Intermittant wash wipe does not work.

General Comments:

Nice inside, well equiped with a/c, elec sunroof, front and back elec windows.

Engine is smooth. Drives well. Like the stance, even with standard wheels fills the arches.

Only complaint: way WAY WAAAAY too heavy for the engine. Has little acceleration on the 1.8 16v carb engine especially with a/c on. Its too big, bonnet longer than my 3 series BMW which has a 3 litre straight 6. In comparison the cabin is too small.

Other than that, like it, but only because I have a faster car to be aggressive with at the weekends.

1991 Mitsubishi Galant LS from North America

Summary:

Reliable and Economical

Faults:

CV boot replaced.

Motor mounts replaced.

General Comments:

This is a very reliable and economical car. I bought it used last year, and although it is nearly 15 years old, it is still in great condition. The paint still looks great and the interior has held up well. It requires very little maintenance, just an oil change every three months. Also, I have been tracking the gas mileage, and I average around 31 mpg, but my best record is around 35 mpg, which is really good since gas is so expensive! Overall a really good car!

1991 Mitsubishi Galant HH GSR 4 cylinder 2.0L DOHC MPI from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A well built medium sized sedan with all the comforts of a sports car.

Faults:

Brake booster died just after purchase.

Rocket cover gasket leaky. $15 to replace.

General Comments:

Great car, handles well. Pretty quick for a 4cyl.

If buying a Mitsubishi, make sure that the timing chain is replaced before 200,000kms. If you wait till it snaps, then it will cost around $1500 to fix.

Otherwise, a brilliant machine.

1991 Mitsubishi Galant GSR 2.0 DOHC from North America

Summary:

I have a new mustang- I drive the Galant

Faults:

Mechanic caused several valves to melt, thus warping the head- not the car's fault.

Electronic controlled suspension went out.

Freon in the AC ran out.

General Comments:

Bought brand new for 22,000 in 1991.

Never had major problems with car minus the faulty mechanic.

Handles like a dream even today.

Still gets 28 MPG.

Loving the dashboard color change and dimmer switch.

Came with acid-rain protectant top coat paint. Seven coats of paint were given to the GSR's. Today it still sparkles and is flawless.

1991 Mitsubishi Galant VX-S 2.0 DOHC 16v ECI-MULTI from Uganda

Summary:

Very fast

Faults:

Suspension not long lasting for bad african roads.

Shocks quite expensive here, especially the Electronically Controlled Suspension on my model (Active-ECS).

Things like water pump, fuel pump, all backfired at the same time, I guess it was the mileage, and the dealer here has no stock, he has to order from Japan!!

Air conditioning works only for a month after repairs, for the third time now - I have given up on it.

General Comments:

Very good-looking car:

Mine has nice sport/aero design, Momo steering, 8 speakers, leather shift knob, black interior, air suspension, rear spoiler and wiper, auto - sunroof, etc..

2000cc DOHC, 16v ECI-MULTI, very fast and powerful, has never let me down on my numerous long journeys..

The cabin is however not as modern as its Toyota counterparts of 1991.
