1984 Mitsubishi Lancer Fiore 1200 EL 1.2L 4G16 I4 (gasoline) from Singapore

Summary:

Abused second hand dog - a horrible introduction to Singapore motoring

Faults:

Needed a new clutch.

Needed various bits of new plastic where the heat of Singapore had damaged the trim.

General Comments:

Massively underpowered manual car. 1,198 cc 4G16 I4 (gasoline).

This could not cope with expressways. 3rd, 4th or 5th gears - had no impact on fact that engine had no power.

Air con was pathetic on short journeys and also long journeys. It just did not cool.

I think the engine power was too low - plus probably I did not know how to top up the air con gas - or even know that could have been a problem.

It was a sad vehicle with grey cloth seats. Some 6 years old when I bought it from an junior office colleague in this new country.

Water intruded into the boot in heavy rain.

I felt relieved when I traded it in for a pristine 1972 VW Beetle - also 1200cc but no air con.

Hate to break it to you, but a 1200cc Beetle makes anything seem fast...

1984 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.5L carborated from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A heap of poo!

Faults:

Carby needed a complete rebuild - did not fix the problem. Dealer had no idea - cost $500.

Carby mod installed - fixed the problem that the dealer had no idea how to fix. Specialist said it is a very common problem. Cost $1000.

Spark plugs replaced - $25.

The car was serviced every 5000 Km.

General Comments:

The styling is great, but under the pretty exterior, lies a headache waiting to happen. This edition of the Lancer is a heap of garbage. This poetical engine was only put into one run of cars, the 1994-1995. That sums this car up completely.
