1996 Nissan 240SX S.E. 2.4 Inline 4 from North America

Summary:

A true sports car.

Faults:

Clutch burnt out around 81,000 miles. Rugs are beginning to wear away, but what else do you expect after 80,000 miles. Headers heat shield rattles at 3,000 revolutions per minute. After removal of the heat shield rattling went away.

General Comments:

Nissan has always been famous for making quality sports cars and the 240sx is no exception. Great performance and handles like no other car I've driven. The cabin has a tight sports car feel to it, but don't expect to carry too many passengers because the back seat is very tight. It's a sports car who needs a back seat. For street racers this is the machine to own because it is rear wheel drive and jumps off the line like no other and just keeps pulling on other cars. This car has so much potential and could be a corvette killer if tuned properly.

1996 Nissan 240SX 2.4 liter 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A sleek, fun, sporty and reliable car for anyone who likes to drive

Faults:

Fuel pump went out with no warning about two weeks after I bought the car. Right after I replaced it, the 'check engine' light went on, but I was able to reset it and it hasn't come on since.

The odometer also has a tendency to stick a little (has stuck twice), but the numbers can be jarred loose by repeatedly pressing the trip odometer reset button.

General Comments:

This is such a fantastic car. It's very fast for a 4-cylinder, it handles great, and is solidly put together. There are virtually no rattles even on bumpy roads.

The front seats are comfortable. Unfortunately, the back seats are almost un-inhabitable if you are a larger than an average-sized adult. Probably okay for short trips, but I wouldn't want to sit back there on a four-hour drive. But nobody buys a sporty car for the back seats.

Fuel economy is okay, I get about 22 MPG doing mostly city driving.

Nissans tend to be very reliable vehicles. My feeling is that if you put the needed maintenance into the car, it will last for many years. The only financial downside is that collision insurance is a little on the high side.

1996 Nissan 240SX SE 2.4 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Decent performance and awesome reliability

Faults:

My muffler broke and I still didn't fix it. It sounds better than it did. Don't put crayons on your seat when it is 90 out, it causes major problems. It needs a cup holder.

General Comments:

I beat the crap out of this car and it just keeps going. I smoke the tires and I redline it everyday. It is a fun car to drive and I don't think it will break down soon. It is cheap and has a little power for those people who think they are speed racers with there rice burners.

The '96 Nissan SX SE has been one of the most reliable and dependable cars I have ever had in the last 25 years. If only American's could build a car like this they would not be complaining about car sales.

It's a great car! I have had it garaged and drive it occasionally, but when I do I get about two offers to buy it.

Nothing done with the exception of the usual change the oil every 3,000 miles and replace the brakes when necessary. I will never get rid of it because this car is going up on blocks, and will probably become one of the first Japanese collector cars.

I have not had this much fun driving since I stopped using my 1970 Old's 442.
