2004 Nissan Almera S 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A costly car due to the timing chain defect

Faults:

Timing chain: twice. This defect is very costly. The first time it cost me £500, and the second time Nissan quoted me £1500-£1700 to fix their own problem.

Headlamps

Fuel sensor.

General Comments:

Large boot.

A lot of space.

However I wouldn't recommend it due to the timing chain defect.

2004 Nissan Almera SE 1.5 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable and economical to run

Faults:

It's had a clutch and 4 tyres, but what do expect at 80K?

General Comments:

Like others, the car does everything perfectly well. The whole driving experience is uneventful and humdrum, but that's what I need right now, so it fits the bill perfectly.

2004 Nissan Almera SE 1.8 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent car, amazing value. Vey easy to live with: no excitement, which is just what I wanted!

Faults:

Nothing so far.

General Comments:

I was looking for a reliable, easy-to-drive car, available at a good price second-hand. The Almera meets those criteria brilliantly.

It's fast and easy to drive, with very secure and predictable handling, and no vices. The brakes are powerful but progressive.

The interior is roomy and the seats are comfortable: firm, but supportive.

The driving position is good: very adjustable, with a clear view, and all controls well-placed.

The computer-controlled audio and ventilation system is quite complicated and I had to read the manual carefully to understand it ... but now that I have figured out, I find it excellent. The steering-wheel controls for the info and audio system are are a very useful bonus.

The only downsides so far are that the ride is a bit harsh on bumpy roads at low speeds, and rear visibility is a little limited.

2004 Nissan Almera SE 1.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Car o.k. nothing special, length of time for parts makes it a liability when things go wrong

Faults:

Wiper motor. Very slow parts delivery, over 3 weeks, have been informed by repairer that this happens a lot with Nissans.

Will not get Nissan again.

General Comments:

Not as high spec as previous vehicle, a bit insubstantial as far as interior finish and construction.

Handling o.k.

Funny angle for petrol filling.

Reasonably comfortable.

2004 Nissan Almera SE 1.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Seriously underrated - smart, but no head turner

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

General Comments:

Faster than I thought.

Handling is very precise, but a bit spongy if you push it.

Quiet and seriously well equipped - still getting used to the multitude of controls though.

Comfortable on a long trip.
