1986 Nissan Bluebird LX 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A quick comfortable car that should last forever

Faults:

Nothing yet, but I've only had it three weeks.

General Comments:

I bought this car to replace my '68 Triumph 2000, it has been very reliable and economical.

The interior is a little more basic than some of the newer models, it lacks the electric mirrors and central locking but still has electric mirrors and a sunroof.

The drivers seat is very comfortable and has lumbar suport and tilt adjustment.

It came with some genuine Nissan accessories from 1986 including mudflaps and a large strip along the bottom of the doors that says BLUEBIRD on it. The paintwork is immaculate in Ice metallic blue.

The only rust is a little bit at the bottom corner of the drivers door and a patch on the bottom of a front arch.

I have added a CD player, some speakers and blue tinted sidelights and plate lights. I also added an air horn.

I am aiming to keep this car for as long as I can so it will be well looked after with oil changes every 3000 miles.

1986 Nissan Bluebird SLX 1.8 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable and a good buy if serviced regularly and appears to have been looked after

Faults:

Gearbox bearings when first bought (maybe due to lack of use).

Suspension dampers replaced (common fault with all Blubirds).

Steering rack worn. Replaced with an exchange unit £200 (Nissan part £750)!

Watchout for corroded lower radiator mounts.

With service history, this unit should go to a high mileage, but listen for worn gearbox bearings!

General Comments:

This car is very reliable and cheap to run if you are prepared to perform your own servicing and maintenance, and use pattern parts where available.

This car is a good motorway car and can keep up with the reps, but economy suffers a little. Does not handle well, best driven using a finger and thumb only (American Style) as you get no feedback through the steering wheel.

The seats are good for long distance work. Check the seat belts for good operation.

1986 Nissan Bluebird SLX 2.0 petrol from Denmark

Summary:

Good, cheap, family car

Faults:

Old replacement cooler had to be changed in spring of 2000 - was replaced in summer of 1998 - it's too fast.

General Comments:

Good performing car, but a little slow compared to the engine size.

Took me and my family through Europe this summer at 160 with a full load of luggage without problems.

The car is very well-equipped compared to the general standards of the mid-80's.

1986 Nissan Bluebird Estate 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A reliable comfortable vehicle with good perfomance

Faults:

Very little, only the normal wear and tear items have had to be replaced, e.g. plugs, filters, tyres, etc.

General Comments:

Considering the age and mileage of the car I think that Nissan can be proud of their product. I'm getting over 30MPG, which is excellent for the size and age of the engine.

1986 Nissan Bluebird LX 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

I have had the car for nearly a year and it has done 109,600 miles, replacements have only been wear and tear items such as steering rack gaiter and driveshaft gaiter. Apart from brakes etc, it runs like a dream and drives very nicely.

General Comments:

Performance ain't wonderful but the PAS steering makes for a relaxing drive, the car does not burn oil (only normal amounts) and I have not had to top up during service intervals. I would happily buy another Bluebird but I want a Rover 827 Sterling which is the next car, overall, very happy with it.
