1988 Nissan Bluebird LX 2.0 from Netherlands

Summary:

By far the best car I have ever owned

Faults:

No special faults, other than the usual wear and tear. One annoying thing however; when the engine is warm, sometimes it does not sink below 2000 revs. It is like the choke is on, in the middle of the summer. The dealer replaced a little cylinder at the carburetor, but that did not help.

General Comments:

My first Japanese car ever. After approximatly 23 other cars like BMW's, Mercedes, Opel etc. etc. this is definitely the finest ever. I bought it intentionelly for a couple of months, but kept driving it for 5 years, with ever-growing enthusiasm.

Sadly It will leave me today, but I have traded it in for a Primera. I hope that the Primera is half as good as the Bluebird, if so, I will have a perfect car in future.

Radiator leaked.

Bad water leak somewhere (floods interior)

Very juicy.

General Comments:

Not too bad a car.

Handles very well.

Takes a good thrashing.

Would think it would have a bit more power being a 1.8 E.F.I turbo.

Slight radiator hose leak.

Used to smoke, using Sainsburys fuel has fixed this though (was using shell)

It is extremely comfortable on long journeys and drives great on both twisty A-roads and motorways.

I would rather it was a saloon as they are better looking, but apart from that the car is great.

1988 Nissan Bluebird SSS Attessa 1.8 turbo from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A comfortable sedan with impressive speed and handling

Faults:

Two radiator hoses failed on separate occasions. On the second occasion I couldn't replace it myself since it was behind the engine and required removal of the inlet manifold and top-mounted inter-cooler to gain access to it. When this was off it was found that the inlet manifold was leaking, and so this required machining also.

Battery failed at 111000kms, although this was probably mostly due to trouble I had starting it when it was cold. It also ran poorly for the first few minutes each morning until the temperature gauge came up.

Stereo was not operational from the time I bought the car.

General Comments:

A very comfortable car to drive around town in, with a number of very nice features for a car of its age, including electric everything and 3-point adjustable shock absorbers (although I couldn't detect much difference when changing these settings).

The ATTESSA 4WD system offers incredible grip, even on a fairly low-grade set of tyres. Even on a day when it snowed heavily it took an effort to make the car lose traction.

Fuel economy was disappointing - around 19-22 MPG, although I suspect this would have improved after a tune-up, which may have also fixed the cold starting/running problem.

A red light runner has caused this car's early demise recently, but if I can find a good deal on a similar model then I'd love to replace it. You'd be very lucky to find a more fully featured car in this price range.

1988 Nissan Bluebird Special 1.6litre Carb from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Buy one!

Faults:

Drivers side window mechanism broke (too many trips to the McDonald's drivethrough I imagine)

Apart from that, nothing!

General Comments:

Excellent car, cost just £200, one previous owner, immaculate condition. You would think it was just off the production line, not a spot of rust anywhere.

The car isn't too hot on performance, but has plenty of power when you get to the top end of the revs (not having a tachometer stops me pushing it too hard)
