1997 Nissan Cefiro 2.0 V6 24valve from Philippines

Summary:

You get your money's worth

Faults:

Car was overheating when I was going up to Baguio. Perhaps I need to overhaul my radiator.

Whenever the engine is cold, there is a short delay on the first gear. It waits until it reaches 3000rpm before shifting to second. After 20-30 minutes, shifting would go back to normal.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my car?

General Comments:

Car is pretty quick. What I like most about this car is that when you are running at a speed of 170kph, you feel that you are just running at 120kph. There is a lot of leg room as well.

I'm also impressed with the stopping power of the car.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

The transmission oil filter in your gearbox needs cleaning or replacement, depending on the type of filter.

When the oil is cold, it is thicker, and when it gets warm, it gets thinner, allowing better passage through the filter.

Had the same problem with my Maxima, which is the American version, but the same car.

You will probably notice that after some time, it will take more and more time before shifting is normal.

As long as it only slips in the first gear, it can be the filter only.

I like my Nissan Cefiro very much. It runs great, fast when you step on the gas. The only thing, every time I start the car it makes this squeaky noise. Sounds like the fan belt or the air conditioning. I cannot have it in 'Drive' after starting the car; I have to put it in 'D2'. I have to wait 5 minutes before it will drive normally in drive gear 'D'. Does anybody know whats wrong with my car? It's a nice smooth car. Thank you, M.

One thing I noticed about the Cefiro is that once the engine experienced overheating, the engine is as good as dead. The only solution is to replace the whole engine with a surplus one, since overhauling a VQ is impractical and expensive. To take care of the VQ, I advice you use a fully synthetic oil such as Motul 300V, the same oil used by NISMO and AUTECH in the Japan Super GT.

With regards to putting your the gearshift in D2 everytime from a standing start, you better have that transmission checked. There might be a loose spring or there might be some damage to the driveshaft.

I have a Cefiro 1997 2000 V6, a Japanese import to Ireland. Is there a timing belt or chain that should be changed? It has 116,000 miles.

It's the best car I have ever had; I love it.

My motto is if it's not broken, don't fix it.

Does someone knows where the original security module is located? I've install a new alarm system, but the old alarm maybe triggered, because sometimes the horn keeps sounding.
