1984 Nissan Pulsar from North America

Summary:

Dependable, cheap, fun little car

Faults:

Heater blower motor needed replacement.

General Comments:

Was a long time ago, but I bought this car for $400, drove it for 1 year, put no money into it except gas and a couple oil changes. The car was really worn out and tired, but still fun to drive and never let me down.

Sold it for same price I paid, to someone else who drove it for a year with no problems and sold it to someone else. Cheapest transportation I ever had, and the car refused to die.

1984 Nissan Pulsar NX 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Great starter car

Faults:

The carburetor had to be rebuilt.

Replaced the head gasket.

New exhaust system.

Smoked very badly when started. So, I replaced the '84 engine with an '86 in much better condition.

General Comments:

The problems I've had with the car should be expected with an older car with high mileage.

Handles extremely well on corners and sharp turns.

Slow at the line, but gains speed quickly after about 35 mph. Could definitely use a little more get up and go.

I like the body style. It's different than all the other sleek cars.

For a first car, it has been very dependable and great on gas mileage.

1984 Nissan Pulsar SG 1.3 Carb N.A from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Economical, but quick

Faults:

Rusted badly around roof gutters.

Hatch struts no longer support hatch when raised.

Carpet is damaged.

Rear window seal is faulty.

Front window seal is faulty.

General Comments:

This car is incredibly reliable, it never breaks down. They are known for their reliability, and they are simple to repair.

The cabin is very basically appointed, its pretty much 4 seats and driving controls.

A quick adjustment of the timing has this car performing incredibly well, it is very zippy and quite responsive.

It has quite a few unimportant, but unpleasant cosmetic rust spots, which I am repairing quickly.

The paint has faded quite a bit which is common in these old pulsars, but a repaint should have it looking very nice.

It could do with a 5 speed gearbox, 4 gears seem to have it revving a bit too high on the motorway for my preferences.

I agree

I have the 5 speed, but I have had all the same minor problems.
