1989 Nissan Stanza GXE V6 from North America

Summary:

Find one with low miles and it'll last

Faults:

Muffler needed replacing several times when car was only four or five years old.

Drivers' side window needed replaced when car was new after I scratched it with a rock at six years old (stupid kid)

It was totaled in 1998 when crashed into the end of a guard rail due to the my mother passing out.

General Comments:

My parents bought the car new in 1989 as a replacement for a '79 Dodge Colt.

Though I never got to drive the car I can tell you what I remember from seven years ago:

Roomy and comfortable with cold air conditioning.

Didn't handle that great around corners.

Very responsive and quick.

Power moon roof was a nice feature.

Small hood scoop up by cowl was a nice styling detail.

Generally a good, solidly built and engineered, reliable car.

Nothing went wrong with the car other than the muffler, but I think that was my fault for putting the garden hose in it as a kid.

More features and luxury than the '98 Sentra she owns now.

I can't believe she was looking at a Camry in 1989 (ugly then and now) but went for the Stanza due to more standard features and price.

I know she'd still have it today, especially since it was garage kept since '92 (though a Stanza is quite uncommon these days) if she didn't crash it.

How much is the car worth, do you know?

1989 Nissan Stanza GXE from North America

Summary:

My trusty steed

Faults:

Before 176,000 miles, I had normal repairs and replaced the clutch once.

At 176,000 miles I replaced the engine.

This month I had to replace the starter, have the rear brakes resurfaced, and replace the exhaust manifold.

I hit a major pothole a few years back, was able to get by with a shim to correct the warped control arm until recently and then had to replace the lower control arm and axle in order to get the alignment OK.

The worst thing about this car: they stopped making them and I can't get a new one...

General Comments:

This car is one of a few that I can adjust so the seats don't hurt my back - it is very comfortable.

The handling is smooth and steering is nice and tight, I drive this car long distances on a fast highway without concern.

I repainted the car last year, because I was tired of the color (no, I would NOT recommend getting Maaco to paint your car, but that's another website... there is now rust damage where none existed before).

This is a great little car, almost a pet since I've had it so long (yes, it has a name, but I'm not going to share that with you right now).

I have a 1989 stanza, and the only problems it gave me is a clunking sound when I take off fast in 1st gear and part of 2nd.. I don't know what could be causing this... please email me if you have an idea... my email is Baked_Sk8a_420@hotmail.com.

1989 Nissan Stanza GXE from North America

Summary:

Not good on gas and not a good car overall

Faults:

About 3 months after owning the car, the brakes went out.

The clutch went out about 2 weeks later.

While fixing the clutch it was discovered that I needed new injectors.

The car had radiator problems just recently.

This car is not good on gas.

The car was cheap yes, but from the Nissan place they guarantee if you treat the car well then you can keep it for a long time. That is a lie. The lady who had it before me kept it up and it is starting to die slowly.

General Comments:

The car is a lemon.

You cannot go anywhere without something serious going wrong with it.

The car guy down here is my cousin and well let us just say that the family keeps him in business.
