1991 Nissan Sunny LX 1.6 16v from Netherlands

Summary:

If well maintained a real bargain

Faults:

Nothing so far. Dashboard light didn't work correctly though.

General Comments:

Great value for money car, this 1.6 engine has 66kw, 16v and is suprisingly fast. Not the most exiting car to look at though, but I bought it for EUR 1100,-!

1991 Nissan Sunny SLX 1.6 from Norway

Summary:

Cheap - Reliable - Fast - Nice

Faults:

The Gearbox is about to die... Just a matter of time I suspect.

The hat-shelf kept closing the rear hatch due to its own weight.

Car tends to get caught in the wind. Although it's quite streamline formed, its front spoiler almost drags it off the road when it's windy.

I think there is a dynamo fault, the battery has been a little touch-n-go lately. I haven't bothered confirming it as the car still drives perfectly.

General Comments:

This car is extremely good to drive, I live in Norway and experience a lot of different terrain, and the car handles them all excellently. Snow, Mud, Burning hot asphalt, Ice - the Sunny eats them for breakfast. The acceleration is extreme on the 1.6 model, it's almost like driving an Audi RS2, you get kicked back into the seat and it just keeps on accelerating and accelerating.

It's a very good car with serious driving potential. It handles as if the car knows where the road is going, and braking is very good.

I have been very unfortunate and the car got ran into when I was turning into my home. But I have sustained no injuries at all from this collision. The car however got its frame dented and as a cause of this - the idiots at the wrecking yard decided it was a lost case. May it rest in peace.

1991 Nissan Sunny SLX 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An extremely reliable if slightly under-powered car

Faults:

Water pump at 60,000 miles.

Intermittent fault on the central locking system, started at around 90,000 miles and still continues today.

Starter motor at 65,000 miles.

Oil leak at 100,000 miles.

General Comments:

A very reliable car, certainly not the fastest car out of the many I have owned, but what it lacks in performance it more than makes up for in reliability.

Looks a little boring inside and out.

Plenty of good design ideas for it's age.

1991 Nissan Sunny LS 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good, and nice, cheap, and reliable

Faults:

Nothing really, just some tyres, a battery and an exhaust.

General Comments:

The car was excellent, easy to drive, and good handling. Goes quite fast if you put your foot down, and no matter how much you push it, it will still go on and on and on.

Fuel economy was OK, but it's a cheap to run, sensible car, not a pain.

1991 Nissan Sunny LX 1.4 from Belgium

Faults:

Sometimes the engine falls out (even while driving, not only not in gear!) This could be due to bad fuel (but then why does it remain after putting in cleaning stuff in the carburator?)? Anyway, if that is the cause, our dealer doesn't seem to be able to get it really fixed, and the car is too vulnerable for this. If the cause is electrical, same remark!

For the rest, it's OK! Starts up very easy.

General Comments:

I bought this car second hand.

Bringing it to the Nissan dealer for oil change... is much costs much more than for our Mazda 626! The back light wasn't in stock when I needed a new one (old one got broken in a small accident). Because the dealer is very friendly, I still give him a 4/10.

Luxury? OK, the car is very silent. But it misses suspension comfort (it's a 5 door; 3 door Sunny seems better): any bump in the road is felt! Steering is extremely heavy.

For a 1.4, it's fast.
