"Great car if you like to constantly have problems"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Car was bought brand new.

Numerous mechanical problems.

Brakes Had to be replaced at 6,000 miles.

And just about every 10,000 miles after that. A total of 6 times fixed (attempted to be fixed) by dealer.

I replaced the rotors with high performance rotors and pads at 50,000 miles myself. Problem has started again at 62,000 miles.

Power steering pump went during the first six months of ownership.

Both windows have broken, window fallen of track and inside door. Good thing car is not a 4 door.

Water fills up behind driver's side seat. Unknown where water gets in.

Water leaks into trunk.

The first 3 settings on the HVAC controls do not work. Have to put fan on high in order to work.

Engine coolant light has been coming on.

Have had to fill up radiator 3 times in past year. Don't know where it is going, no leaks on driveway.

General comments?

Car has good acceleration.

Smooth ride.

Looks great when clean.

Roomy interior and trunk for a coupe.

Sounds exactly like my car. Water leakages constantly a problem. Be prepared if your filling up the coolant a lot. This is bad because the coolant is mixing with your oil in the manifold gasket and will need to be replaced. Trust me I had the same problem and I finally took it to the mechanic at the dealership and $1500 later it was fixed. I was not happy to say the least. Watch out for the water problem too. It will ruin the electrical system. I've given up. If you want it my email address is michael@cb-contracting.com.

2000 Alero 4 door V6 -

I'm laughing so hard at the previous comment - unfortunately I too have had the same problems with this car. I've only owned it about 3 weeks and already starting to regret this purchase.

I was sorry to hear Oldsmobile doesn't exist anymore and so the recalls are not even guaranteed now. The mechanics at GMC/BUICK told me when I left out of there "see you soon" and MEANT IT.

My oil is just disappearing out of the car "no leaking" and now I keep 2 full quarts around just in case. I am getting change oil light and I just had an oil change. Checked my oil this morning and it was BONE DRY. My coolant looks almost dry too so it must be that it leaks into eachother and blows out the back as "white smoke" - don't believe the mechanics that say it's a cold morning. I live in Florida and it's not even fall yet - no cold mornings.

Brakes & Rotors seem to be an issue with these cars I'm pleased to hear that if I put performance rotors & brakes (maybe slotted/drilled rotors???) I might get atleast 12,000 miles out of them - I"ll try that next.

Email me at TIGGNFL21@AOL.COM Thanks

I had the same problem with my 2000 Alero. 3 weeks into ownership my coolant was leaking into the oil. 1500 dollars later I had my car back. Thank God I bought the extended warranty! It paid for itself right there!

Since then my blower motor broke and I have had to replace my brakes almost every 12,000 miles. The dealership is content to sell me rotor after rotor and a quick machining of the rotor once they warp again. I am ready to get rid of this car as it has been a nightmare to drive since the beginning!

I am going German!

I have had the lower intake manifold gasket replace under my extended warranty at the olds dealer (before they went out of business) and have traced the water leak to the trunk lip near the window. It doesn't seal against the trunk lid and water flows over it. I remedied this with a piece of door edge guard (i guess this is what its called) which raises the lip to catch the trunk lid.
