1986 Oldsmobile Ciera Custlass Brougham V6 Gas from North America

Summary:

Excellent Vehicle

Faults:

I can't figure out why the car will crank up and then sometimes the idle drops so low and the car shuts off. I've been too many mechanics and none can figure out what's wrong! I had a new distributor put in and that did not solve the problem. New spark plugs have been put in also and that did not solve the problem. Can anyone help me with this???

Also, when the car is first cranked up, the steering wheel will not turn to the right! I can't figure out this one either! I can force the steering wheel and it will go and eventually (about 5 to 10 minutes after the car has been running) the steering wheel returns to normal. Is this a power steering problem? Again, mechanics can't figure it out.

I love this car! It has been very reliable except for the usual replacements when it reached 50k miles. The compressor was replaced and the other things mentioned above were replaced as well. I just wish I could figure out the problems I mentioned in the past 2 paragraphs. If anyone knows about these problems and has a solution, please email me et cattoddjw@yahoo.com.

General Comments:

Just 1 step down from a Cadillac!

I love this car!

I hope it will be a classic soon as it sure drives and looks like one.

The 6-cylinder engine is fantastic!

The interior is very roomy!

I have a 1986 Ciera Cutlass Brougham. It had 140,000 k`s when I bought it. Now it has 223 k`s.

I had one problem; the gas tank started to leak. When I replaced it, I had stalling problems for awhile, but after awhile the stalling stopped and it now runs like a top.

I change oil every 5000 k`s and it doesn`t burn a drop in that time. Also very comfortable to drive.

1986 Oldsmobile Ciera GT 3.8 HO from North America

Summary:

Sleeper GT

Faults:

Transmission leaks a bit.

Paint has cracked and blistered on hood and roof, worn down to primer on edge of trunk lid. Original paint.

Some tears in drivers seat. Leather and suede interior.

Power locks make noise, but don't throw the locks anymore.

Engine in very good condition. 3.8 liter is probably GM's best engine.

General Comments:

This car is a sleeper, Granny's GT.

The previous owner was a little old lady who only drove it to church... I know because I bought it from her.

It is very quick off the line and will go from zero to traffic ticket in six seconds.

The High Output engine has factory headers and high flow exhaust, it rumbles, but not too loudly.

Sequential fuel injection.

Not as much HP as current 3800 engines, but fast enough!!

Four speed overdrive automatic tranny with center console shifter. Only overdrive tranny offered on Ciera at the time.

Interior is very comfortable.
