1992 Oldsmobile Ciera S 3.3 Litre from North America

Summary:

The most reliable car you can buy

Faults:

The front suspension has started to go.

The driver seat has worn down quite a bit.

There is a hole in the driver-side rocker panel, and rust on the car.

The power driver seat motor has stopped working.

General Comments:

We got this car from my grandfather, who stereotypically babied it. My dad drove it for 2 years, and it has been mine for awhile now.

I drive this car as hard as anybody, and it has kept going through it all. despite many winter ditches, some on purpose, it has never given me any real problems that wouldn't be expected. Most of the driving it sees is stop and go too.

1992 Oldsmobile Ciera Supreme S 3.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

A car that will not disappoint you

Faults:

Stock Exhaust leaked and needed to be replaced at 118,000 miles.

Starter is showing signs of going out at 130,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is one of the more comfortable cars out there.

The handling with the 14-inch alloys is not too bad. My Olds handles a lot better than any other vehicle I've owned.

Performance wise, this car will surprise anyone who drives it. Although it is by no means a sports car it has amazing get up and go. I even took mine to a track for fun and it ran a 17.01 second quarter mile. The only complaint I have about the performance though is the takeoff. The car doesn't really get going until it hits 30 mph.

As far as gas mileage goes on average I get around 28 mpg. The time I spend driving on the highway and in the city is fairly even.

The cars stock stereo is kind of weak and is not the expensive to replace. If you're not big into cranking your radio or listening to cds the stock system will more than work for you, but if your into subs and the like this car has some potential. Although you're not going to meter that high on a decibel scale it sounds really nice with subs.

As for reliability you cannot beat this car. It will always be there when you need it and will start on the coldest days of winter. My air conditioning still works after all these years and there is nothing major that has gone with my car till this day. You cannot go wrong by buying this car, no matter who you are.

1992 Oldsmobile Ciera S 3.3 MPI from North America

Summary:

Great reliable car

Faults:

New tires installed by previous owner are causing a vibration at 50MPH.

Otherwise nothing else, car is excellent. The previous owner has had some things replaced from what I see, and I can tell this car was babied.

General Comments:

I bought this car recently from a new car dealer, and it is in nearly mint condition. It was a new car trade from an elderly woman, and she took great care of this car, it's excellent, Runs new, looks like a 3 year old car. Drives great, handles great, it almost floats. For an 11 year old car, it can't be beat. It's really comfortable also, nice ergonomics for it's time. Lots of power from the engine when needed, if you're not careful it can get you a ticket (one of those cars where you feel like you are doing 40, but you look at the speedometer and you are doing 55+). There is nothing about this car I can complain about. One little annoyance is the automatic locks when the car is put in drive, I have to get used to that, I always forget I'm locked in. Great safety feature though.

1992 Oldsmobile Ciera S 3.3 liter V6 from North America

Summary:

A great car that is cheap to buy, drive, and maintain

Faults:

Generally nothing major has gone wrong with this car. It is known for it's rock solid reliability, but it has needed few things for an 11 year old, some which weren't her fault.

She was an ex-rental before I bought her and the dealer (a family friend) fixed these items prior to my purchase.

- Drivers door handle wouldn't open from the inside. (When repaired the handle stuck out about half an inch, but that never bothered me)

- Was repainted along base, below the rubber side moldings on the sides.

During the 6 months I owned this vehicle, these have been the problems.

- hood release was sticking and not catching when hood was closed. All that was needed was to lube the latch under the hood.

- was backed into while at a stop sign.

Damage to my car was minimal, bumper headlights and grille were bent slightly off kilter, giving it an off look that only I could notice. Also 2 headlight covers were cracked. The Dakota that backed into me needed a whole new rear bumper and hitch.

- A deer ran into the side and bounced off the rear wheel when my mother borrowed the car. All that happened was factory alloy had small dent hardly noticeable.

General Comments:

I called her Tracie.

This car is a known veteran for reliabilty and I trust this car for another 150,000 miles. Engine was very powerful and was quick, though not off the line.

Creamy white paint was very prone to scratches which it had all over body.

Trunk spring was a bit too large for the light trunk, always had to double check to make sure was closed.

Car doors would lock when you shift into drive yet wouldn't unlock when you park.

Drivers seat was leaning toward the center of the car, could never figure out why.

Radio was a bit of a stretch and always wondered why "Unleaded Fuel Only" was written above it.

Dash layout was the best I've had. I could see every guage and switch.

14 inch tires do not grip the road well, even on factory alloys.

Gas mileage is fair to good. 22-town 25-highway.

Had power seats, but was only for back tilt.

Resale value dropped significantly during the time I owned her and is only because this car is a dime a dozen.

1992 Oldsmobile Ciera S 3.3MFI V6 from North America

Summary:

A great car, with great performance, that I love

Faults:

Alternator died, approximately 4 months ago.

Bearings were bad in the starter, and the starter had to be replaced.

General Comments:

The car was given to me by my parents who bought the car brand new.

It is very comfortable and is fully loaded.

Nothing beyond basic maintenance has gone wrong with the car.

It is extremely quick and responsive and is never the first to leave the line.

It handle very well and can take turns at fast speeds.

My only complaint was that it didn't have a Cd Player, but that was taken care of.

The keyless entry remote frequency was thrown off and no longer controlled the locks, but was replaced with a new system.

It's not the best on gas, but it makes up for that in performance.

1992 Oldsmobile Ciera S 3.1 6-cylinder from North America

Summary:

195,000 miles and still going, and going, and going!!!

Faults:

It is quite incredible that after over 195,000 miles this vehicle has been virtually trouble-free. The only repairs that have been required have been a water pump and alternator.

The front passenger side wheel bearings were also replaced.

Aside from the usual general upkeep, finally last year it needed a battery.

Tires were replaced after about 80,000 with Michelin tires (two of which I still have on the car after almost 120,000 miles).

General Comments:

The first few years of the cars life logged over 30,000 miles per year, but since a relocation closer to work the yearly mileage has decreased, this has had no effect to its performance. The front wheel drive is excellent in all types of weather. For all around reliability this vehicle can't be beat.

Maybe this is one example why the Oldmobiles brand will not be made any more, being this reliable there would be no reason to buy a new car.
