My 1999 Intrigue has a bad bumping noise and feel in the front end also and the blinker bulb burns out. I wish I had know of the alternator replacement sooner. This car really does scat. Very fast. I have also noticed the high oil consumption. Any suggestions on the bumping noise would be appreciated.

The steering clunking may be the intermediate steering shaft. I recently had mine replaced and all is well. Good luck.

I keep a couple of quarts of oil in the trunk of my 99’. She’s a thirsty one. It seems to use more oil when it’s driven on several ‘short’ trips (< 10 Miles). On long hauls it doesn’t use as much oil. The 3.4 L V6 engine confuses mechanics, it was sort of an experiment based on the Cadillac Northstar V8. It was dropped when Olds folded. A little more development time and better quality from part sub-suppliers and they would have really had something.

11.19.2010 - I own this car, and also recently replaced the MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR/ INTAKE. No more stalling. $200 for the repair.

1999 GL V6: Used to turn corners and the engine would just die... Had to throw it into neutral and man-handle it (without power steering, mind you) until I could start it again... it would happen weekly.

Dealer mechanics could never re-create this problem... Finally, the positive battery cable burned out ($500+), but it never failed again after that.

Now (Jan 2011), at 115,000 miles, and my dealer has diagnosed "crank sensor" failure... $515.00...Ouch!...but this car is STILL better than that used Taurus my wife foisted on me in 1995... I want to buy American again... Will be looking at Malibu's in the future...

I had this problem about hard starting. Turns out it was the crank sensor. It's located just under the starter. Easy job.
