1988 Peugeot 306 XADTurbo 1.9 turbo diesel from Portugal

Summary:

Simple, effective and reliable

Faults:

Airbag light sometimes flashes. The root cause is an orange connector under driver seat.

Radio (a very good Clarion) tuner failed @ 120000km. 150€ after it was back in place.

Lower front suspension arms gaskets needed to be replaced. I consider it normal after 130000km.

Belt tensioner bearing failed near 100000km.

General Comments:

Fantastic car to drive considering its generation.

Great engine if we consider it is not a Direct Injection unit. Very relyable and economical. I once crossed entire Spain (From Portugal to France) without refueling.

Comfortable and resistant seats. My 306 is a VAN model. I can place 2 mountain bikes inside it only by removing their front wheels! It's the unique VAN I know where this can be done.

Very easy and cheap to maintain.

I now have a new 307 Break, but I love and pretend to keep the silver gray 306 until "he" quits eating asphalt.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
