1981 Plymouth Caravelle review from North America
"Dirt cheap transportation"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Basically just the obvious with a car of its age.
Bought a New battery.
Replaced the spark plugs.
Rebuilt the carburetor.
Floor welded into place.
Body work and paint job.
General comments?
This car was a tank. And the engine was wore badly. Too the point oil was shooting up through the carburator. The front frame buckled on it. and we drove it behind our garage, Thie car was the most reliable we've owned. Very reliable.
The cabin was moderately spacious. the seats were sort of comfortable. heater worked well in the winter. But it was sometimes hard to start in the coldest months.
The Engine was not really used for power. (Even though nicknamed the leaning tower of power) but gas mileage was excellent!
Purchased the car for junk at a 150.00$ was in such good running condition, we junked the other Plymouth and made this one road worthy.
This was the second slant six Caravelle our family owned. Both vehicles ran with the same gusto and high mileage. We purchased the first one for $2800.00 back in 88. It ran from 1988 -1999. and the front frame busted on it.
The first Plymouth also survived a rear ending, where it drove the back-end underneath toward the ground, we tied the trailor hitch to a tree and yanked it straight. we got the cracked frame welded and it was good for another five years.
