1984 Plymouth Gran Fury Salon V8 from North America

Faults:

When I got the car, it had a lot wrong with it.

Body needed a fender.

New tires.

The drivers seat has begun to slightly tear at the stitching space.

I've had to replace things like the brakes, rotors and fuel filter, air filter, and the battery needed to be serviced, as well as a tune up.

Occasionally as you are driving the car, the car will jerk quite a bit and it's believed that the transmission skips, or more like takes giant leaps! But it has lasted me and I drive it like crazy.

General Comments:

I believe that this car is sturdy and probably has a lot of life left as it sits. I haven't had any break-downs whatsoever.

1984 Plymouth Gran Fury 5.0 318cu V8 from North America

Summary:

A reliable, comfortable old friend

Faults:

It always burned about a quart of oil every 1000 miles. A couple of years after I bought the car, my mother borrowed it for a couple of weeks, forgot to top off the oil and blew the engine. About four years later, I had to replace the alternator; besides that, nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

I loved this car; it was roomy, the 318cu V8 had plenty of power (top speed in excess of 120), the seats were big and comfy, and the ride was soft. Gas mileage around town was only about 15 mpg, but on the highway (and if I drove halfway sane), I could get almost 30.

1984 Plymouth Gran Fury 5.2L from North America

Summary:

Cheap and comfortable

Faults:

Bought this one owner car from a 98 year old lady who said she never had any major repairs done. In 4 years I replaced:

Clock and window washer broke the day I got it.

Water pump twice, once the seal, once the bearing.

Radiator, all hoses.

Two transmissions, lost reverse - twice.

All vacuum lines to heat/AC controller.

And then, THIS CAR HAS A PLASTIC/METAL CAM SPROCKET, so it threw the timing chain. Watch out. Check that timing chain play.

General Comments:

This is a comfortable, solid, roomy car that handles well for a big boat.

Weak transmission and timing chain sprocket.
