1989 Plymouth Sundance 2.2L from North America


I would recommend buying one, they are fun little cars. Dependable and reliable cars


It was my first car.

Upon buying it, I had to put new brakes on it.

Transmission service and I had to replace a couple of fuel lines.

Headliner sagging held up by duct tape.

Cracked windshield.

I replaced the cap wires and plugs.

Before I did that, it ran dumb and would stall at intersections.

Gas gauge doesn't work; big bummer. I found out quick I get 20 mpg city.

The wipers like to hang on each other.

Headlights suck in the rain.

General Comments:

Even though I hate that piece of crap, it has never left me walking, and always got me to the gas station on fumes.

1989 Plymouth Sundance RS 2.5 Litre turbo from North America


Awesome car for a student!


I have replaced a lot of things on this car. I have replaced the CV joints twice, the shocks once. I have also gotten a new transmission put in it, from a 2.2 Litre. I have also had the clutch replaced once. There are a few wiring problems with the car. The rear defrost doesn't work. I have had problems with the taillights and signal lights not working, but after proper grounding, they work now. I have had three radiators put in. The interior lights have never worked. I've also had to put a new alternator in.

General Comments:

Apart from the troubles that come with having an older car, I have had good times with it. It goes like snot, handles very well, and is a good winter car for Alberta. It always starts in the winter, I have had no troubles with that. The interior is in awesome shape, and the exterior, apart from the paint chipping in some spots, is also in good condition. There is little rust on the body.

A vehicle to be reckoned with.


I have had three CV axles ripped in half due to faulty front motor mount.

Engine began knocking and was then replaced by a later model Voyager engine.

Driver's side window is very difficult to operate.

Driver's side door cannot be unlocked from the outside.

The front passenger seat has full reclining motion WITHOUT pulling the release lever.

Headlight covers prevent much light from making its way to the road.

Temperature and fuel gage do not operate properly.

Passenger side rear door is very difficult to open.

Air conditioning has failed to operate.

Vacuum operated water flow control valve leading to the heater core is stuck, only to be unstuck by pulling over, opening the hood and working the valve back and forth a few times.

The horn began to make a terrible sound resembling that of a dying animal and then ceased to work.

All, but one emblem on the body has fallen off.

When brakes are applied one tailight gets brighter while the opposite light gets dimmer.

First gear slips severely up to 20mph.

Transmission remains in third gear upon stopping.

It takes about 3 to 5 miles for it to shift from first to second gear.

Highest mileage ever achieved was only 20 mpg while the average is about 16.

Trunk fails to support itself when opened.

The bulbs issue is a problem with one of your bulbs or one of the sockets, very easy to fix.

The horn needs to be replaced 10.00 and the engine knocking is normal, almost all 2.2l engines do this with low mileage - there is nothing wrong with that, they will still run forever.

Sounds like your car wasn't maintained properly.

I have 1990 Plymouth Sundance hatch back with a fold down back seat. When I drive over bumps, the back seat area makes a rattling noise, what can I do about it??

A high performance bargain!!


Shocks had to be replaced at 160000.

CV Joints were replaced at 157000.

General Comments:

This car is peppy as heck. It goes like snot in the wind. It is awesome on gas and goes forever on a tank of gas. The car has never ever left me stranded and I live in Northern Ontario, where we have ridiculously cold winters. This car started every morning without trouble in the winter, even at -40C, and it was never plugged in. I boosted my friends car every morning for a week. This car is awesome, perfect for a student or a teenager!!

I love my turbo, paid $300.00 for it with 129,000 k on it. Body is now aw-some, looking for 16 inch p.t. cruiser rims to finish it off and some window tint.
