1992 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am review from North America

"An enjoyable and affordable classic ride with plenty of opportunities to personalize and show off."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Driver side automatic window engine needed to be fixed.

Air conditioner is temperamental.

Brake fluid for left rear wheel was leaking.

The factory rims had custom locking nuts on them so they can't be taken off with out the proper equipment that should come with the car. Otherwise, good luck on changing the tires.

A silent alarm system that came with the car broke causing it to not respond. When security is breached, the car will not start. Unfortunately only removing the entire alarm system will cure this.

The pop-up head lights don't always work. Sometimes one or the other will pop-up. Getting out of the car and pulling it up manually usually works. They need new engines.

The automatic antennae was stuck. It also needs a new engine. Pulling out the fuse chip, so the batteries aren't wasted, also disables automatic locks.

The buttons on middle arm piece for windows and electronic side view mirrors have a tendency to pop off if not properly secured.

Dashboard had cracks from standing in the heat.

General comments?

Other than the brakes, all other fixes were for convenience features.

Be careful of the Plexiglas nose piece! It isn't plastic or sheet metal so it will not dent if hurt, it will break.

Young people, especially those that grew up with Knight Rider, love the car. This is definitely a "hangout" car.

This car still looks intimidating. As a girl, I found it useful to drive a car that is not easily "pushed around" by other cars, large trucks, or a SUV on the road.

It sticks to the road at all speeds and around corners.

This car has slightly better than average gas mileage. I have far to drive everyday so that I've put 5000 miles within less than a year. A full tank will take me a little over a week before a refill.

Acceleration is number one. Without even slamming on the gas pedal, the car will reach 40 mph right out of a red light before other cars start to roll.

For under $2000 this car is great for college students that need a good looking, A to B car that can also become a hobby.
