1999 Pontiac Firefly from North America

Summary:

Excellent vehicle. GM made a mistake discontinuing them!

Faults:

Exhaust system replaced every other year.

Front wheel bearings twice.

General Comments:

This was another excellent car built in the CAMI plant in Ingersoll Ontario. We bought it off lease from a dealer in Kitchener and drove the heck out of it for 5 years. Unfortunately for the car, I wrote it off on Valentine's Day on black ice.

I was quite happy with how well the car absorbed the impact as the entire driver compartment was protected. I was going less than 20 kph and the car that I hit (head on) was doing over 40. The car I hit was a Subaru which actually pushed my car back about a meter! The air bags deployed perfectly and all I suffered was a stiff neck and broken water bottle. The car was a write off and now I only have my '98 model.

1999 Pontiac Firefly LE 1.0 from North America

Summary:

If they still made it, I'd buy another!!!

Faults:

Brakes every 50 K.

Exhaust systems every 2 years.

General Comments:

A small basic manual Canadian made vehicle which runs great in all temperatures and at all times. Starts easily at

+ 35C to - 30C. Great gas mileage when 2 people in car. As a commuter or short range car it's great. Over long periods, it is not comfortable.. but it is an econobox.

With rear seat flipped down, you can carry 20 8' 2x4s easily.

Does not go really quick, but cruises nicely once you get to 100kph.
