To add to my previous comment... (question the the writer of the review) How many miles do you currently have on your GT and what was the millage when those last two problems you mentioned occur. Have you been able to solve the 'sputtering' in idle and gear issue?? If you ever check this site, let me know =) thank you.

Actually I wanna buy a car like that, 1996 year. I like how that is looking, it's nice, write to me & tell me all about this car, please!!

I have a 1996 grand am SE and am quite satisfied with it. I have 106,000 miles on it and for some reason the caar has been overheating and it caused the radiator to crack. Right now I am not sure what to do because I have heard that GM's radiators are cheaply made.

But overall it isn't a bad car except... oh yah I forgot its about as loud as a jet engine taking off even when it's just idling.

That shaking and check engine light flashing is a sign that the engine has a miss fire... which is probably time for spark plug replacement.

And the reason for the leaks is because of the orange coolant gm uses.

Switch to green... your coolant issue will minimize.

You guys need a better mechanic.

The sputtering/no power and raw fuel smell, plus the flashing check engine light all point to the ignition system. The check engine light flashes when whatever is going on is going to destroy the catalytic converter. Likely you both had/have a dead cylinder, and that is likely causes by a bad spark plug wire or coil pack/ignition module.

If a mechanic wants to "shotgun" a problem (try a bunch of random fixes, some that aren't even related to the system the problem is happening in) you should just leave with your car. You're basically paying someone at that point for no diagnostic ability.
