1989 Pontiac GTA 5.7 TPI from North America

Summary:

Fast comfotable classy beautiful auto

Faults:

I tuned it up the day I bought it $700.00. The car ran great, there was a performance chip in the computer. The wire in the ignigiton switch broke.

General Comments:

The car still handles good, it needs shocks. It is fast I have a stage 3 performance chip in the computer and what a big difference it makes. So when those young guys in their Z28s and IROCS come up beside me and egg me on. I have to show them what they are really missing... they get a little mad because I'm a chick. I am getting ready to purchase a newer Trans-AM. I would never get rid of my 1989 I fell in love with that car, its beautiful and there isn't a million of them on the road.

1987 Pontiac GTA 5.7 from North America

Summary:

Best bang for the buck

Faults:

I just recently replaced the front passenger side brake rotor. It was warped and caused the car to shake when the brakes were applied.

I just replaced the water pump. First time since I have owned it.

I plan on replacing the motor because it burns/leaks a little oil. (about a quart a month)

General Comments:

I love the look of the car, the power of the motor and the quick response of the Multi-Tuned port fuel injection. I own 2 GTAs. I will eventually get a 3rd, but this one will be a manual. The 2 I have now are both automatics.

I have had to occationally replace parts here and there, but I can't complain to much.

Unless I become filthy rich and can afford a Koenigsegg, or Saleen, I will own a GTA.

1989 Pontiac GTA 5.7 litre from UK and Ireland

Summary:

This car is the best performer I have had and this includes better than my Porsche 911 and 944 LUX

Faults:

The only problem with this car was the starter motor as it kept sticking.

General Comments:

This car follows on the heels of an 84 Trans Am & it is so much more quicker with the added desirable road holding & comfort factor with it's full leather interior, over here in England it really turns the heads.

1989 Pontiac GTA Turbo Trans Am 3.8L from North America

Summary:

The boost is very addicting!

Faults:

T-Top weatherstrip is leaking.

Rear main seal was leaking. replaced it.

General Comments:

This car is very quick considering it's stock and 15 years old.

Much faster than my Formula 350.

1988 Pontiac GTA 5.7 L98 from North America

Summary:

A very nice car - definitely a keeper

Faults:

I had to replace the water pump shortly after purchase, the pump bearings were shot.

Exhaust rusted through (OEM unit) and I had it replaced with an Edelbrock aftermarket cat-back system.

Rear brakes are a pain to replace, I've just recently done this.

The power antenna broke, so I have no radio reception. Not a problem, I simply enjoy the sound of the car while running.

General Comments:

Although running on the stock suspension, the car handles very nicely, despite its curb weight of over 3600 pounds.

The leather seats are very comfortable - in fact, the entire car is comfortable.

Noise is a small problem, as the entire car is feeling it's age and it has the typical rattles and squeaks I expected when I bought it.

The engine (350 c.i.d.) puts considerable torque to the ground, again, despite the fact it has never been rebuilt and is around eighteen years old. More than enough power for daily use.

It has the digital dash option, which adds to the late-eighties high-performance look that Pontiac was shooting for.

Too new for classic, too old for modern, it still has a lot of things going for it.

1989 Pontiac GTA 350cc from UK and Ireland

Summary:

The GTA (89) is a grade A tourer

Faults:

The car has been really good except for an after market alarm that kept draining the battery, but this alarm has now been re-installed properly.

The seat belt restraint is uncomfortable as it feels like it is strangling me, but I feel I may have to look at the tensioner.

General Comments:

This car is my second Firebird, the first being a 1984 5 speed manual Trans Am & it is like driving a different car in the fact the handling is more pleasurable.

The interior is the leather option which is very nice & comfortable.

The general cockpit styling is more refined & unless you have a leather upholstered Recaro 84 option the seats in the GTA are a world apart from the 84 Trans Am.

The GTA is super super fast & has that V8 rumble you always want to hear without being too obtrusive.
