My 2006 Torrent is now on its fourth set of rotors and I'm pretty tired of this. First set went at 30,000 km, and then every 10,000 km after that.
I've noticed the 2008 models now have discs all round. I wonder if this is in response to un-equal braking distribution with the 2006 model drum brakes?
I'll be getting rid of this vehicle shortly while it's still under warranty.
Your brakes are not evenly distributed to begin with, it is more biased to the front. Having disc brakes all around just means you will have better brakes in the back.
The problem is that someone keeps installing the lowest quality brake pads and rotors on your car. They buy their parts from the lowest bidder and this presents a problem. You should buy the original brake linings from the dealership parts department and have a reputable mechanic install them for you. Aftermarket brake replacement parts have always been junk. It's not a problem with your SUV. It's the parts supplier/manufacturers fault.
Also the disc brakes on the back are just a gimmick. It doesn't improve things since over 85 percent of the braking action takes place up front. It's better to use drums on the rear plus they last longer if it's a drum and it's cheaper from the get go saving everyone money. And I do like saving money.
Technology is counter-intuitive. Bet you didn't know that propellers are more fuel efficient than jet engines. The manufacturers created "Turbo-fans" just to humor people into thinking they are flying something new and better and still improve fuel economy to a degree. But turbo-props are still more fuel efficient.
