2005 Proton Impian from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Good car despite many negative comments from the home country"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

None.

General comments?

I am rather surprise to read so many negative comments about this car particularly from the home country where the car is called WAJA. However, I must say I have been happy with this car so far.

The car is well positioned as a practical family sedan that offers the best value for money in its class. Not only it offers good drive, it is also spacious and reliable. In addition, it comes with top class equipments which usually not found in this price range.

In short, I have no negative comments on this car, and I hope to see more fair comments about this car in the future.

You are right that the Proton is a good car in the UK/Ireland. The UK models simply undergo a different quality control (and parts) than the models marketed locally.

You may have purchased your car in the UK at a very reasonable price, but it has been heavily subsidised by the Malaysian Public. Anyway, we are glad that you enjoy it.

At this point, the quality of Proton cars are also being debated at ministerial levels in Malaysia. The locals have had enough.

I got frustrated over the extremely poor sevice from service centre. Dashboard loosen sound / front door (driver side) loosen sound since day one and I've been visited 3 different branches so far, none can rectified the problems. Escalation has been made to their HQ in Malaysia and still can't be resolved. I'd said all these were the attitude problems and if that's the case that none of these service technicians can do anything then I'd suggest we don't need the warranty at all since nothing they can made us more happy.

Imagine, buying a car with so many problems and thought that all these can be rectified during warranty period. Just forget about, none of my problems can be retified so far.

Please Proton, enough times has been given by all of us here in Malaysia and just when you can produces some quality products? It's quality that makes you can't competing in today's world. What's the used of acquired Lotus if you can just good in handling and can't good in the rest. If you can have a good quality product then ultimately, our voice of dissatisfaction will be lesser. Please wake up, the world now wants best in everything, pleas see the world from every angle.

Actually Proton is always "ready" for the world, they sell 1st class cars to the world, but they sell "rejected" cars to Malaysians because probably to them, it's OK to have bad image in Malaysia as long as the world sees them perfect. How pathetic that can be and to add more fire, they even dare to sell it at higher price to Malaysians because they are "protected" as the obvious reasons that the govt imposes ridiculous taxes on imported cars so that the average Malaysians will have no choice but to settle with Proton makes. If Proton can sell cheap and good quality cars in UK, Australia, etc... then Proton must be fair and honest to Malaysians too.

I think the Impian/Waja is a good car. Many of my neighbours use them and have no problems... the only problem is they don't have internet connections to praise their cars in this forum. It is the best selling car in Malaysia. As for me I am still using my 4 year old trouble free wira. Cheers.

Impian/Waja is a good car and getting better. It is the best selling car in Malaysia with sales of about 3,000 a month. I am getting one soon.

Most Malaysian comparing Proton Impian with Mercedes and BMW. To them if the quality are comparable to these two cars, then it should be OK with them. I'm driving persona, It' been 5 five years already, very economical car and trouble free... of course with a regular service and extra care.

I have used the Impian/Waja for a year now without any problems. It is very stable at high speeds on Highways/Motorways and has precise steering feel on country roads. The ride and handling is superb thanks to Lotus. It has loads of space in the cabin and boot. I don't get tired when travelling long distances. It is a very good car.

I've driven this Proton WAJA for almost 5 years now; it has been trouble free, comfortable, with less fuel consumption and much more. It has very stable handling at high speed. All the electronic parts are still working without any problem. Overall, a very good saloon car. Thanks LOTUS and Proton!

We have an 05 plate impian that has been in the family since new, it has been looked after with regular services ect,

im only 5ft 7" but I find it uncomfortable to drive, the seats don't have any suposrt the steering wheel even fully adjusted up doesn't sit high enough the rearview mirror is hard to position in a good place and when you do it vibrates constantly so you can't realy use it.

It has racked up 66tho miles ans is basically slowly faling apart.

Myself and the wife have been using it for around 3 months when we got it, the alarm had stoped working the exhaust had been repaired several times, as it keeps snapping (bad design with not enough mounts???)

the central locking doesn't always work, the heater control is stuck.

I think it's a very badly designed car with unbelivably bad quolity control.

BUT to be fair as a cheap car I can't fawlt it the mpg is good it fits 4 people in with enough room to be comftable and when the exhaust isn't blowing (not that often) it's a quiet car, the 1.6 engine is underpowered for the car size but it does the job well enough.

And the equipment level is good for such a cheap car.
