2000 Proton Waja 1.6 from Malaysia

Faults:

Head lamp intermittent (frequently)

Rear door handle broke after 2 years (common problem)

General Comments:

No major problem, just some minor problems due to use of low quality materials, especially in the cabin where cheap plastics are used everywhere, though Proton make an effort to use leathered dashboard.

Very stable on highway, I managed to cruise comfortably at 170kmph and still feel safe.

It will be a better car if Proton looks into its quality problems more seriously.

The car is still very good if not for those minor problems.

2000 Proton Waja 1.6 from Malaysia

Summary:

The car need to be develop further for future competition

Faults:

Rear suspension always squeaking.

A snap sound from steering rod when accelerate uphill.

Wheel structure is 'soft'.

General Comments:

This car has good handling especially when it fitted with anti roll bar front and back.

However the absorbers were unable to cope up with the chassis. The absorbers need to be reworked.

The low seats position will help the car handling. However the seats are too small and uncomfortable for long distance driving. Like sitting on a wooden chair.

Enhance engine performance with variable valve management.

I would just like to say that I have owned a proton 1.6 since new, and have covered over 80,000km. to be honest there are small problems with it. but overall I think it's a great car. so stop being so critical of it!

2000 Proton Waja Base 1.6 gasoline from Malaysia

Faults:

This is the worst car in the world and malaysian who bought it have to pay more to support a malaysian company. After afta is Proton still produce a bad car like this, I suggest we won't by this car again.

The Proton Waja is a good car.

No overall it is not a good car. Bits and pieces maybe. The overall finishing and customer support, after sales service leaves a lot to be desired. Those claiming it to be a good car are usually previous proton owners or such inferior cars. It's like going from extremely bad to a-tad-bit-better than-extremely-bad.
