2003 Proton Waja 1.6 from Malaysia

Summary:

Not a good bargain

Faults:

My power window has a problem. It malfunctioned in just 2 months after the car is delivered to me.

The head light got problem. Every time I use a bad condition road or go over a speed breaker the headlight is "shaken" i. e when I switch to low or high beam there is no difference.

The air condtioner is extremely cold until after a while air just does not comes out of it.

General Comments:

The car is over priced and cost a lot to maintain.

2003 Proton Waja 1.6 petrol from Malaysia

Summary:

Affordable with high performance in its range

Faults:

Front wheels make a funny sound when making turns.

Air-conditioner switched on with a loud "bang".

Front wheel brakes produce a black powder, which is suspected to be caused by the new brake pads, which are too hard.

Occasionally the engine dies off when going uphill, especially after stopping at traffic lights on an uphill slope.

General Comments:

Cheapest in its class.

Petrol consumption is low.

Air-conditioner is very cold, but will freeze when traveling long distance, causing the air-conditioner to turn warm as the blower is blocked by ice.

Suggest that you turn the temperature to a warmer level when traveling long distances, to let the air-conditioner to cool down slowly instead of too fast.

Safety features are emphasized, especially the side doors, which can absorb impact from the side during accidents.

The bumper is much more solid than the Proton Wira, and very similar to the Proton Iswara.

I have experienced being bumped by a Proton Wira from the back, and the Wira suffered more damage than my Waja, and my Waja only had scratches, but the whole bumper is intact.

Speaker and sound system is powerful and comparable to other expensive brands, thanks to "Clarion".

I love the low profile sports rims, which came originally with the car.

The Waja has perfect handling when making sharp corners. It's stable without the driver being thrown to the side, even when seat belts are not fastened.
