1986 Rayton Fissore Magnum 4x4 2.5 turbo diesel from Italy
Very solid, exclusive hand built 4x4
1 water pump at about 145000kms.
1 wheel bearing at about 180000kms (skf about $70 in 1990).
Water leak from windshield seal corner at about 150000kms (re- sealed with proper silicon).
Head lights switch on steering column replaced at about 170000kms (about $60).
Very reliable car.
I used the vehicle also in relatively “light” off-road, and did had a great mobility over a diversity of terrain.
The engine (a Sofim/Iveco 2.5 TD) was still working perfectly when I sold the car, as were the ZF gearbox and Iveco differentials.
The power in this particular version was not a lot, but sufficient to get to 145kms of speed and to accelerate the Magnum fast enough to keep up with the best competitors (Range Rover TD or Toyota Land Cruiser) of the same years.
The interior it was great, fully covered with Italian leather (much like a Maserati Quattroporte III or a Jaguar XJ), and the visibility was great.
Very spacious and comfortable for 5 persons, plus a lot of space in the trunk, due to the very large body (205 cm. Large) but relatively short length (only 456 cm).
Stability was also very good, with the small certified tires 205-80-16 at the time. Also in offroad, the motricity was better than my previous 1985 Range Rover 3.5 V8 4 doors (classic).
Overall, a great car!
