1972 Renault 12 TL 1.3 from South Africa

Summary:

A fantastic and fun runabout

Faults:

Starter motor bracket broke several times.

Rust was always a problem in many areas, especially the floor.

Several CV joint changes.

General Comments:

I have owned several vehicles since my Renault, but it still rates as one of the most comfortable cars on a long journey.

The car would simply go anywhere, and was not fussed by rough terrain.

Though not very quick (145km/hr tops) once accustomed to the roll and softness, the car really handled well.

I think overall, this model was ahead of it's time, and this is what made it different and stand out from the crowd.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I own a 1970 Renault 12 TL which is still in very good condition. Much has been said about its design, comfort, economy, reliability. I fully agree that it was far a head of its time and I don't even for a moment consider disposing of it now. I will maintain it and keep it till I keep it again.

You still have the r12? I'd be interested to see pictures of yours, as I have two r12's myself, and a Dacia 1300, I love to see other r12 owners and their cars. My email is gracious@cox.net
