1985 Renault 25 GTX 2.2i petrol from Spain

Summary:

A very fast sofa

Faults:

Injection problems which never were repaired.

Oil leaks from manual gearbox.

On-board computer fault (petrol level).

Broken A/C.

General Comments:

It's a very comfortable car and very fast too (200 km/h top speed). The only fault of the car is poor reliability and very bad service from the dealers.

I sold the car two months ago, but I continue to love it. I now have a Chrysler 300M, but.... it is not the same!

Gearbox in my 1985 leaked too even after the driveshaft seals were replaced. My fuel gauge is also inaccurate but it turned out to be the connector under rear seat near sender unit. I cleaned it. But reading can still be quite inaccurate especially when the tank is down to the last 10 to 20 litres. BUT it is a great car and has been 100% reliable for all 10 years I have owned it.

Renault 25, 2.2i, 1985, manual gearbox.

It is very nice car. I recommend those who are students to own this type of car, rather than BMWs, Fords, etc.

Comfortable, reliable, and economical.

Faults:

Auto gearbox failed.

Various problems with injection system.

General Comments:

A lovely car really, comfortable, loaded with 'toys' and cheap to buy.

Big problem is the auto gearbox, I've heard of so many many of them failing before 90K miles. Easy to check on early models, if the gearbox fluid is brown and smells burnt the box has had it. Later models didn't even have a gearbox dipstick or filler plug!

Yes, the auto is not very good on this car. If you get manual gears they're good. I have had two R25s, and they've been manuals, and they never let me down.

Faults:

Not a damn thing in 14 years and 100 kilometres. The tires will need replacing soon - but that is all!

General Comments:

Great car - cannot afford to sell it even though it is now my number 3 car in my garage.
